The tourism industry in the Philippines is an important sector of the country’s economy. However, when the pandemic hit the country, plenty of tourism establishments and attractions closed as borders closed and travelers were asked to stay indoors.

DOT: “Include tourism workers in the priority list.”

Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat asked the National Task Force Against COVID-19 to include the tourism sector’s frontline workers on the vaccination priority list to revive the local tourism industry. Her statement also justifies that the nature of tourism workers requires face-to-face interaction with guests and tourists. For these workers and travelers to be safe, tourism frontline service workers should get vaccinated.

Bohol starts vaccination program for tourism frontliners

In line with the province’s efforts to revive its local economy, the provincial government of Bohol has started its vaccination program for tourism workers at the Modala Beach Resort in Panglao, Bohol. During the vaccination drive, a total of 4,990 tourism workers got their first dose of the Russian-made vaccine, Sputnik-V.

According to Bohol Tourism Council Joanne Pinat, 80 percent of tourism workers from Panglao were present in the drive while the rest were workers from Loboc, Carmen, Bilar, and Anda. Apart from the Modala Resort Hotel, the other venue for the vaccination program was Bellevue Bohol Resort in Panglao.
