NATIONAL EVENTS

The public is advised to take note of various events in line with the National Elections week.


Election Day

May 9 is special public (non-working) holiday to give way to the National Presidential Elections. Except for malls, news outfits, some call centers, and public agencies involved in the coming elections, private companies and government bureaus will be closed for the day. More than 54 million voters are expected to cast their votes in their respective polling precincts all around the country.


Road Advisory on Election Day

Number coding scheme will be lifted on May 9 in all Metro Manila cities and municipalities as per Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA). Meanwhile, SM Malls will be open by 12:00 PM (noon) until 9:00 PM only.


Liquor Ban and Exemptions

A liquor ban has started last May 8, 2016, 12:00 AM (midnight), Sunday, and will last until May 9, 2016, 11:59 PM. This 48-hour liquor ban is in accordance with COMELEC Resolution No. 10095 where any person including owners and managers of establishments may be imprisoned for one to six years if they sell, offer, buy, serve, or take intoxicating liquor anywhere in the Philippines on the aforementioned dates. Nonetheless, some establishments may be given exemption from this prohibition, in particular, the tourist-oriented ones that cater mostly to foreigners.

Enthusiast shoppers can look forward to great shopping deals at some big malls in the city.

The SM Store 3-Day Sale

The SM Store is holding another 3-Day Sale this week, in particular, on May 13, 14, and 15. Participating malls are SM Makati, Cubao, Quiapo, Harrison, San Lazaro, Bacoor, Novaliches, San Fernando, Megacenter Cabanatuan, and Consolacion.

Markdown Madness is happening on May 11 to 15, 2016, at the Activity Area of Ayala Malls, Market! Market!, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City. Leading lifestyle and performance brands such as Skechers, Sperry, Keds, Merrell, Pony, Polo Ralph Lauren, and No Fear and other shoe, apparel, and time piece brands are on sale at 70% off. The sale runs from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.


Robinsons Galleria Back to School Sale

Robinsons Malls will be having a back-to-school sale on May 13 to 15, 2016 at 70% off on selected items. Twenty-seven Robinsons Malls nationwide will be participating including Robinsons Galleria, Robinsons Place Manila, Robinsons Metro East, Forum Robinsons, and Robinsons Place Las Piñas in Metro Manila and other Robinsons Malls in Luzon and Visayas. Most Robinsons Malls are open from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City is having a 3-day Sale with up to 70% discounts on selected items on May 13, 14, and 15. Mall hours are 9:00 AM to 12:00 MN, Friday, 10:00 AM to 12:00 MN, Saturday, 10:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Three 50” LG TV units and nine 32” LG TV units will be given away to lucky shoppers. Participating malls include Gateway Mall, Ali Mall, Farmers Plaza, and SM Department Store.

This Expo aims to gather travelers and members of the tourism industry.

The 2nd Tourism Lifestyle & Business Expo is happening on May 9 to 11, 2016 at the Glorietta Activity Center. Presented by Glorietta, Ayala Center, Miss Tourism Philippines, and Ex-Link Events, the event features various businesses showcasing their products and services related to tourism and lifestyle. Several resource speakers will be there to discuss about traveling tips and essentials. On the second day, May 10, forty-two Miss Tourism Philippines candidates will grace the affair in their Filipiniana gowns for the Flores de Mayo showcase competition, one of the pageant’s categories, before their coronation night.

A local festival on a weekday is happening in Valenzuela City.

On May 12, 2016, Barangay Mabolo, Valenzuela City will hold its Mano Po, San Roque Festival. Regular program of the celebration includes a procession featuring their Patron Saint and street dancing called Sayawan sa Calle along the city’s main roads.

The festival has been a popular venue for single men and women to request help from San Roque for finding true love. Barangay Mabolo is approximately 25 minutes from EDSA-Monumento via MacArthur Highway.


WEATHER ADVISORY

Inconsistent weather can be expected throughout the week. A couple of showers may occur in the afternoons.

PAG-ASA has announced that the dry season might reach its peak this month. It is recommended to stay hydrated by drinking a lot of water and eating watery fruits. Staying under the Sun from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM when the sun is at its hottest must be avoided. A number of municipalities in Davao, Butuan, and nearby areas have already declared a state of calamity due to El Niño since January 2016.
