HOLIDAY SEASON

Long weekend due to holidays

The Philippine government has declared Monday, August 29, as a holiday in celebration of National Heroes’ Day. It will be a long weekend so the locals will spend valuable time with their loved ones by going to the malls, dining at restaurants, or enjoying a getaway outside the metro.

National Heroes’ Day is celebrated every last Monday of August to commemorate all heroes who started the Philippine Revolution in 1896.

The Municipality of Daanbantayan is staging the Haladaya Festival on August 30. Locals of Daanbantayan or Kandayanons simultaneously celebrate the festival with the feast of their patron saint, St. Rose de Lima. Haladaya is the shortened form of “halad kang,” which means an offering to Datu Daya, who was the first leader of the municipality.

The Municipality of Carmen is also celebrating the Sinamay Festival. The festival is named after the sinamay fabric, which is the primary product of Carmen and is used in making hats and bags.
