Prices of goods remain the same in Bacolod despite bad weather

Shoppers can expect stable retail prices in Bacolod.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Negros Occidental has recently announced that there has been no significant increase in the prices of manufactured goods despite the bad weather.

One of the factors that may cause inflation is an increase in transportation costs. However, DTI has said that there have been no disruptions in the delivery of products despite floods and heavy rain. According to DTI Trade and Industry Development Specialist Reginald Hudierez, prices of basic commodities are likely to remain stable.

Bacolod Water District deploys fix for contaminated water

Several pipes owned by the Bacolod City Water District (BACIWA) have leaked and caused contamination in the drainage water. Residents of affected areas have complained of foul odor in the water.

When checked, it was discovered that there was zero chlorination in the water when there should have been 0.3 parts per million liters. BACIWA General Manager Engr. Mario Macatangay has announced that they have increased the dosage of chlorine in their pumping station in order to resolve the problem.

Thunderstorms and showers are to be expected throughout this week. The minimum temperature will fall at around 25 to 26°C and the maximum temperature may fall at about 32°C. There is a 70% to 85% chance of rain throughout this week especially during the weekdays. Travelers are advised to bring light rain coats or jackets as well as small umbrellas due to the fluctuating weather patterns in the city.

The House of Frida, located above Café Bobs Lacson, will be having an exhibit from September 2 to 19. The showcase is entitled The Imaginarium of Gringo Benedicto: A boundless spectrum of ideas put on paper.

The exhibit allows audiences to peek into the artist’s memories of Bacolod City interpreted with the use of objects, symbols, and scenes that are both real and imagined. This is Gringo Benedicto’s first solo exhibit.

A new exhibit will be opening in Gallery Orange on September 17, 2016 at 7:00 PM. The gallery will have art pieces from various forms of multimedia including video and photography. It will be a collaboration of different artists from Japan, Australia, Cebu, Iloilo, and Manila. Gallery Orange is located within the Art District in Mandalagan Street.

Shawarma ni Kulas - Lacson will be holding the Bacolod Reggae Fest on September 16. The event will feature Sakada Sound System, Langbay Ji, Mighty Bagat with MC Jah, Kirby and Friends, Yagenormz, Cali Island, Mhandatus, Mandirigma, and Kokoi Baldo. The event is free and will start at 6:00 PM.

The University of St. La Salle will be celebrating University Week from September 13 to September 16. Different organizations have prepared booths and attractions for students and outside guests. There will be arcade games, movie rooms, karaoke bars, cosplay cafés, and exhibits. One of the biggest productions is the horror room which is themed “Demente” this year. The horror room is open from 08:30 AM to 05:00 PM.

On September 11, The District North Point will be celebrating Grandparents Day, with tribute shows to be staged at the activity center.

On September 16 to 18, there will also be a Minuluan food fair still at The District North Point. Minuluan is the original name of Talisay City where the mall is located. At the fair, shoppers can find different kinds of specialty food and delicacies at various stalls.

Traditional Chinese mooncakes which are usually given to friends or family members

SM Bacolod will be celebrating the Mooncake Festival from September 12 to 18. There will be a Chinese bazaar at the main atrium where shoppers can get different kinds of hopia or round sweet rolls. Chinese trinkets and treats can also be found at the north atrium. Participants can get a chance to win different prices from the giant dice game to be held on September 16 to 18. Participating restaurants will also be giving out discounts throughout the week. The Mooncake Festival, also known as the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, will be celebrated on September 15.

HOLIDAY SEASON

The public can enjoy a long weekend in celebration of Eid’lAdha.

President Rodrigo Duterte has declared September 12, 2016 as a holiday in observance of Eid’l Adha (Festival of the Sacrifice). According to Republic Act 9849, the government recognizes the festival as one of the greatest celebrations of Islam. This holiday commemorates Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, following the orders of Allah.
