We all just can’t wait for the long, hectic week to be over. And when Friday comes, we are always on the lookout for fun things to see and do with family and friends. This list will get you through this weekend with lots of activities and entertainment. Looking for movies to watch or concerts to go to? We’ve got that covered.

Movie


Here’s a great treat for moviegoers. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children will be hitting cinemas this weekend. Filled with dark fantasy and adventure, this film revolves around a 16-year-old boy named Jake Portman, played by Asa Butterfield. Jake goes to a mysterious island to find out what happened in one tragic event. And this is where he meets Miss Peregrine and her peculiar children. Other members of the cast are Eva Green, Chris O'Dowd, Terence Stamp, Judi Dench, and Kim Dickens.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is directed by Tim Burton, who is also the director of several famous movies such as Alice in Wonderland, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Big Fish, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Theater


It was in 1980 when Annie was first shown in the Philippines, with Lea Salonga as the main character. This year, you can be inspired once again by the story of Annie, an orphan who always has a positive outlook despite of different challenges in life. Krystal Brimner, the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival best child actress winner, plays the role of Annie.

Other members of the cast are Isabeli Araneta Elizalde, Michael De Mesa, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Maria Francesca Rojas, and Precious Lainey Galvez. Annie will be shown at 8:00 PM, on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 3:00 PM, Saturdays and Sundays, at Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila. You can watch the musical until December 4. Ticket prices range from PhP860.48 to PhP3,441.92.

Fans of Yeng Constantino can have a get-together this weekend to watch Ako si Josephine. It is a musical that showcases the famous songs of local singer and songwriter Josephine “Yeng” Constantino. Yeng started her career in 2006 when she won the title “Grand Star Dreamer” in the reality TV show Pinoy Dream Academy. Some of her hits include Hawak Kamay, Ikaw, Chinito, Salamat, and Awit ng Pangarap. You can watch Ako si Josephine until October 9 at PETA Theater Center. Ticket prices range from PhP1,101.00 to PhP1,981.80.

“One Voice” features local singers Jason Dy, Klarisse de Guzman, and Juan Karlos. Directed by Frank Mamaril, with Marvin Querido as the musical director, the concert will take place on October 1, 8:00 PM, at the Music Museum. Ticket prices range from PhP1,545 to PhP3,090.

Freshmen will hold their third anniversary concert called “3logy” on September 30 at the Music Museum. Freshmen is a pop and rhythm and blues (RnB) group composed of Levy Montilla, Sam Ayson, Derick Gernale, Third Casas, and Patrick Abeleda. The concert is for the benefit of HOPE Foundation, Inc. Ticket prices range from PhP309 to PhP1,545.


Art Display


Ayala Museum presents a landmark exhibit called “Yee I-Lann 2005-2016.” The exhibit features the works of Yee I-Lann, a Malaysian contemporary artist. Her works have been featured in several international galleries, museums, and cultural institutions. “Yee I-Lann 2005-2016” showcases the artist’s works that cover human experiences, history, landscapes, and culture of Southeast Asia.

The exhibit will run until October 2 at the ground floor gallery. You can pay the museum admission fee (varies depending on type of access), or just PhP150 if you only want to see this particular exhibit.
