Metro Manila welcomes a new month this week and is entering the summer season. Here are the latest news and local advisories in the metro for this week.

Number coding for PUVs in Metro Manila is suspended

Another massive jeepney strike is being organized by transport groups on Monday, February 27 protesting the planned phaseout of their vehicles.

Some of the affected areas are Metro Manila, Iloilo City, Bacolod City, Baguio City, Cebu City, Tacloban, and Cagayan de Oro City which affected numbers of passengers.

Some of the school administrators have canceled their classes. The number coding for Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) in Metro Manila is likewise suspended.

Flight cancellations due to radar maintenance

Air traffic maintenance to cause flight cancellations

Travelers going inside and outside the country are advised to observe flight cancellations for March 2017. There will be a temporary radar shutdown on March 6 to 11 due to air traffic maintenance in Tagaytay City. Major airlines such as Philippines Airlines, Cebu Pacific, Cebgo, AirAsia Philippines, and Skyjet Airlines have released a list of canceled flights due to temporary radar shutdown.

The list of flight cancellations are posted and updated in the official websites and social media pages of the mentioned airlines that passengers should check from time to time before their travel dates.

AirAsia to launch Manila-Caticlan flight

AirAsia Manila-Boracay flights will be available in March

Asia’s biggest budget carrier, AirAsia, is adding Manila-Boracay flights via Caticlan Airport this March. The airline will start offering two flights per day starting March 15 and will re-launch Clark to Boracay flights by the end of the month. This is AirAsia’s way of addressing the increasing demand for flights going to Boracay during the season.

Boracay is one of the most famous beaches in the world and is the most visited tourist place in the country. During summer, more local and foreign tourists are expected to go to the island to spend their vacation.

Clouds and sunshine can be expected this week

Summer season to start in March

After several weeks of cold climate and frequent rains, sunshine is finally in the forecast this week with portions of clouds in some areas, a sign that summer season has arrived. Higher than average temperature can be expected in Metro manila and nearby provinces. People going outdoors, especially commuters, are recommended to wear appropriate, light clothing, and to bring a fan to combat the heat.

More travel opportunities as cruise ships dock in Manila

Star Cruises is offering a 5-day cruise itinerary as the Superstar Virgo will make Manila its homeport from March 19 until May 23. This development is an offshoot of the government’s goal to make the country a major hub for international cruise ships.

Tourism undersecretary for Administration Rolando Canizal believes that having Manila as a home port allows Filipinos to avail themselves of cruise packages without needing to go to other countries just to experience cruising. In 2016, many international cruise ships have expressed their interest to dock in the Philippines.
