Here are the most interesting places to visit for fun through the rain.

Now that we’re in the thick of the rainy season, erratic weather can put a damper on going outdoors. But you can still beat the rainy-day blues with some fun indoor activities. When going to the beach is not an option, below are some places you can go to in Cebu to spend time with friends and family.


1. Extreme Aeropark


Address: 2F Parkmall, Ouano Ave., Mandaue City

Extreme Aeropark is a recreation and fitness center which boasts of having the first indoor trampoline park in the Visayas-Mindanao area. It houses 1,700 sq. m of interconnected trampolines where guests can enjoy various activities.

Soccer enthusiasts can play bubble soccer, where players are strapped into inflatable balls while attempting a goal. Basketball fans get to do a slam dunk with the help of trampolines. Kids at heart can literally jump into the foam pit filled with foam blocks. Other attractions in Extreme Aeropark include wall climbing, dodgeball, slam ball, ninja arena, parkour wall, laser tag, and delta tag.


2. The Barracks

If you’ve ever wanted to channel your inner Legolas or Katniss Everdeen, one place to check out would be The Barracks . The first archery tag in the country features a large field complete with bunkers, hideout spots, and targets. To hone your archery skills, you can practice first with a hover ball in which floating balls serve as your targets. If you’d rather be a spy than an archer, they also have a laser maze where players need to dodge laser beams to escape the maze. Customers going in groups can also play laser tag.


3. Happy Mong Kids Park

Happy Mong Kids Park is a playground and amusement and theme park where the little ones can enjoy rides and other fun activities. Here, kids can sail on a pedal boat, ride a train or the 4D rider, or drive bump cars. In the activity area, kids can climb aboard an inflatable pirate ship, jump on trampolines, or glide through the inflatable slide. For little ones who would rather stay put, they also have building blocks and a do-it-yourself (DIY) bead booth. Before leaving, you can have your picture taken with your kids at the photo booth or by the huge Facebook poster.

4. SM Skating at SM Seaside City Cebu

If you want to try ice skating, you need not go to a country with a cold climate to experience this. One can enjoy ice skating and other sports on ice at SM Skating , touted as the only Olympic-size rink in the city. With 1,800 sq. m. of ice surface, the facility has been used to hold an international ice skating camp and ice skating clinic. Here, customers can skate by the hour or unlimited. Rentals include polar bear balancers and lockers. You can also pay for an assist coach to guide you. SM Skating offers formal and group classes for ice skating, ice hockey, and speed skating.


5. Cebu Happy World Museum Miracle Art


Address: Lot 2-A-3 Brgy. Gabi, Cordova
Operating hours: Monday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM

For those who want to appreciate art and have a good laugh at the same time, the Cebu Happy World Museum Miracle Art might be worth a visit. It is called a miracle art museum because the 3D paintings let guests be part of an optical illusion. The museum has 70 paintings on display scattered across six sections: world famous art, religious beliefs , ocean, Jurassic animals, Philippine pride, and the ending. Here, guests can experience having their head served on a platter or run away from a hungry-looking dinosaur. Aside from the paintings, guests can also go on a bumper ride or experience the 4D rider.


6. Mactan Island Aquarium


Address: M.L. Quezon National Highway, Maribago, Mactan Island
Operating hours: Monday to Sunday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Want to know more about fishes and sea creatures? One can learn all about sea animals at the Mactan Island Aquarium. Opened in September 2008, it is the first and only public aquarium in the Visayas. The 55. sq. m. aquarium houses over 1,000 marine animals such as exotic fish, water snakes, sea slugs, and turtles. They have an activity corner where kids can do puzzles, answer quizzes, or shade the pages of a coloring book. For an additional fee, guests can feed a shark through the opening of a shark container.


7. Museo Sugbu


Address: M.J. Cuenco Ave., Brgy. Tejero, Cebu City
Operating hours: Monday to Saturday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

History buffs young and old alike can take a glimpse of the past at Museo Sugbo. Built in 1870, the museum used to be Carcel de Cebu, which served as the provincial jail of Cebu as well as the main prison for the Visayan district. It wasn’t until 2008 that the jail was turned into Museo Sugbo.

The museum has five buildings featuring galleries divided into pre-colonial era, Spanish colonial era, the war in Cebu, the National Archives section, and the past presidents section. Guests can also snack on sandwiches at 1871 Celda Café, or make artwork at Crafted Trails.


With creative and innovative spaces like these, it is possible to have fun sans the sun this rainy season.
