Most people resolve to be more fit when the New Year comes around. This involves not only exercising more often but also eating right, whether at home or at healthy restaurants. However, not all people are willing to spend money for a gym membership.

It’s a good thing that there are public spaces like parks where people can exercise without paying a dime. Below are the top running parks in Metro Manila where you can break out a sweat.

6. Ayala Triangle Gardens

We start off our list with Ayala Triangle Gardens. This patch of green space in the middle of the Makati Central Business District (CBD) is an ideal place for office workers to squeeze in a quick running session after a hard day’s work. If you’re up for a challenge, you can run along the outside perimeter of the garden which spans about 1.2 km. You can also do yoga, play Frisbee or football, or have a picnic with family and friends. Pets are allowed in Ayala Triangle Gardens, so you can take your dog out for a walk, too.

5. Track 30th

Taking the fifth spot in our survey is Track 30th in Bonifacio Global City. With its 310-m. long jogging path, there is ample space for you to do your run without having to worry about passing cars or pedestrians. What makes this park unique is the art installation composed of wooden stakes which can also be used for working out. After your run, you can head to the meditation garden or check out other interactive art installations.

4. Salcedo Park, SM MOA

The fourth spot is a tie between Salcedo Park and SM Mall of Asia (MOA).

SM MOA offers runners a scenic view of Manila Bay. You can run along the perimeter roads of SM MOA which is a flat, 3-km. terrain. Zumba and aerobics activities are also held in the surrounding areas of MOA.

Salcedo Park is a pocket park in the Makati CBD area. It is a refreshing spot of green space amidst residential and commercial buildings. If you’re jogging on a Saturday morning, you can hit up the Salcedo Saturday Market for great eats.

3. CCP Complex, Quezon Memorial Circle

The third spot is yet another tie between the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) and Quezon Memorial Circle

The eight-ha. CCP Complex has a 2-km. waterfront area which is ideal for jogging. You can make your run more intense by going up the CCP Ramp. As with SM MOA, runners are rewarded with sunrise or sunset views from Manila Bay.

Another popular place to jog is Quezon Memorial Circle. Here, runners can come across 15 ha. of green spaces. You can put in 1.8 km. to your running route by going around the outer perimeter of the park.

2. Capitol Commons, University of The Philippines – Diliman Academic Oval

The University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Campus Academic Oval is an ideal place for fitness enthusiasts to run because of its tree-lined roads and dedicated lanes for runners and bikers. Aside from the 2.2-k. oval, you can add gardens or lagoons to your route, or even try the Heartbreak Hill to get your heart racing.

On the other hand, those who live and work in Ortigas can go to Capitol Commons to run or jog. This mixed-use development has main roads with a total length of 500 m. with flat terrain, making it ideal for short runs.

1. Luneta Park

The number one spot in our survey goes to Rizal Park, more popularly known as Luneta Park. This heritage site is not only a popular place for families to hold a picnic, it’s also one of many spots for watching Christmas lights in Manila. You can do a 1-km. run by going around the Jose Rizal monument, or join groups doing t’ai chi or arnis (Filipino martial arts) in the morning. Fun runs are also held at the parade grounds, while sports activities are held at Burnham Green.
