March is a good month to see and experience what Iloilo has to offer. For one, the improvement of the traffic situation is being worked out by local leaders. Adventure seekers can hike or camp at the mountains in Leon and Igbaras. On the other hand, foodies can get a taste of oysters, Ilonggo’s favorite seafood.
In coming to Iloilo this week, you shouldn’t worry about the weather. Nevertheless, one should take precautions by bringing an umbrella, applying sunscreen, and drinking water.
Hot, sunny weather
Sunny week ahead in Iloilo City
March is one of the best months of the year to travel to Iloilo because of the good weather. The average temperature that locals and tourists will experience this week is 31 °C. It will be very warm with the sun shining brightly. There are days, however, when morning rain will greet you. It is advisable for tourists and locals to bring an umbrella for protection from the scorching heat of the sun. Those who want to catch the sunrise or sunset may do so at 6:30 AM and 6:01 PM, respectively.
Cargo truck ban in Pavia, Iloilo
The truck ban on municipal streets takes effect beginning Feb 19.
A truck ban which prohibits cargo trucks from passing through the municipal streets of Pavia, Iloilo will soon be in effect. Through Municipal Ordinance No. 2015-09, heavy cargo trucks and trucks carrying gravel and sand will not be allowed to pass through certain streets beginning February 19. The ban will be in effect from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, and 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. However, exemptions are granted for emergency situations.
The law which was approved last 2015 has just been strictly imposed due to complaints coming from residents and barangay (village) officials. Traffic congestion and deterioration of the streets are major considerations for enforcing the ban. The Philippine National Police (PNP) are mandated to implement the municipal ordinance.
Local leaders came up with the move to ease traffic for motorists going to and from the airport. [1]
Fresh seafood and mountain climbing
Local food to try: oysters
One can enjoy plenty of oysters in in Iloilo.
When in the City of Love, one seafood locals and tourists can try is oysters. Though the neighboring town of Capiz is the main source of talaba (oyster), oysters are also abundant in Dumangas, Iloilo. Oysters are available whole year round in Iloilo City and in towns. At restaurants, one can buy a platter of steamed talaba for about PhP80 to PhP120. Prices vary depending on the restaurant that you are in.
Hiking at the mountains of Iloilo

Other than the usual city tour, tourists who are up for an adventure may consider hiking and climbing at Mt. Napulak, Igbaras, and Bucari, Leon.
Mt. Napulak features the sacred nipple rock. In going there, hikers can encounter Rafflesia speciosa, a smaller version of rafflesia, the world’s biggest flower which can only be found in Antique.
Another great hiking spot is Bucari, where rock formations and Imoy Falls can be seen.
