Thunderstorms are expected this week, but tourists and locals alike can look forward to a cleaner ferry port and lighter traffic due to clean-up initiatives and the reinforcement of bicycle lanes in Bacolod City, respectively. If the weather clears, one can also visit a Bacolod destination that has been listed as a top attraction by the local tourism agency.

Weather: Thunderstorms in the forecast

Thunderstorms are expected this week and are likely to occur from May 23 to 25. According to AccuWeather Forecast, the minimum temperature will be at 24 °C, while the maximum temperature will be at 34 °C. To be prepared for any weather, bring umbrellas and raincoats.

Traffic News: Reinforcement of bicycle lanes in Bacolod City

Locals and visitors who prefer bicycles as a mode of transportation can now enjoy a hassle-free trip in Bacolod City. The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) was urged by Bacolod City Council to reinforce bike-friendly lanes in the city in an approved resolution last May 9 [1]. The council urged the traffic authority to strictly implement the lanes since motor vehicles use them as parking areas when not monitored. The said bicycle lanes helped lessen traffic and minimize motorcycle and bicycle accidents in the city.

Travel Updates

Cleaner ferry port

Visitors from nearby islands can expect a cleaner ferry port this week and beyond in Bacolod City. The Bacolod City Council pushed the City Task Force Clean and Green (CTFCG), Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp (BREDCO) management, and the seven barangays to clean their premises at the Bacolod Reclamation area [2]. The said area has been full of dumped garbage, which can be the primary source of several types of diseases and other health-related problems if not cleaned. It is also an eye-sore to the visitors who are traveling by boat. Illegal dumping of garbage in the area is now closely monitored by the CTFCG.

Bacolod Government Center tagged as a must-experience destination

The Bacolod City Government Center, also known as NGC, is listed by the Bacolod Tourism Department as one of the recommended places to visit in the City of Smiles. Alongside NGC are the newly refurbished Negros Museum, Negros Forest Ecological and Biodiversity Foundation, Bacolod Public Plaza and Bandstand, San Sebastian Cathedral and Bishop Palace, Panaad Park and Stadium, and Pope John Paul II Tower [3]. NGC is now becoming an icon in the city because of the large crowd it attracts every day, so if you are visiting, make sure to keep an eye on your valuables and keep safe.
