This Week in Bacolod (June 10 to 16, 2018)

Continuous downpours will set the mood for the whole week. Thunderstorms are expected as well from Wednesday to Saturday [1]. So it is recommended to stay indoors as much as possible for there are reports of people struck by lightning in the previous weeks. In preparation for rain showers and flash floods, always keep your gadgets and important documents in a waterproof bags and casings.

Most classes in private schools in Bacolod will begin on June 13. That means a large amount of students will now add up to the traffic condition from last week. People driving a vehicle are advised to find alternative routes in order to reach their destinations with little or no delay. Meanwhile, those who commute should prepare for the worse since the drainage construction along Lacson Street is not yet finished.

Two major airlines in Bacolod have sought the Civil Aeronautics Board’s (CAB) approval to collect fuel surcharges [2]. That means there will be an expected fare hike for domestic flights. This will be another burden for travelers since the expected price hike is from PhP70 to PhP250. The fare hike was caused by higher fuel costs and weaker peso value. It is recommended to book flights earlier to avail cheap flights or wait for discounts and promos.

Festival goers were saddened by the cancellation of the Mudpack Festival at the Mambukal Resort in the municipality of Murcia. The festival was deferred due to the reduction of the Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE). However, there’s still great news! The budget will now be more focused on the improvement of Mambukal, a Negros Occidental Provincial Government-owned and managed resort under the Economic Enterprise Development Department.

The provincial government said it will prioritize the needs of the resort for its operations. Tourists who want to experience the hot springs of Mambukal will have a worry-free escapade as a greater budget was allocated for their safety. Sad to say that the festival didn’t push through, however the provincial government promises that it will come bigger and better.

Balay Negrense, a historical tourist spot in Silay City will celebrate their annual food fair on June 9 and 10. Kaon Ta Festival, an event led by the Silay City Government is now one of the go-to events during the city’s charter anniversary. Tourists who will be arriving before the Philippine Independence Day will taste Silay’s culinary heritage from street food, seafood, traditional dishes, drinks, and desserts. You can also take a historical side trip to other heritage houses and museums in Silay after your gastronomic adventure.
