People from all over Metro Manila drive here just to get their hands on one of the roasted goodness of lechon in Quezon City. And with the Holiday season just around the corner, you’re probably considering a trip down here.

Filipino lechon institutions like Mila’s Lechon and Ping Ping’s Lechon always come up when discussing the best lechon in La Loma. But you might get overwhelmed by this La Loma lechon if you’ve never been to this little place in Quezon City lined with one lechon roaster after another. Ramon Ferrero started roasting pigs in 1988 and is now one of the most prominent personalities in La Loma. He is the person who led the formation of the La Loma Lechonero’s Association, initiated the La Loma lechon parade in Manila, and is also one of the advocates in pushing La Loma to be the lechon capital of the country. In the fifth spot on the list of best lechon in La Loma, a famous Laloma lechon is Monchie’s Lechon.

Monchie’s Lechon has also been featured on television a couple of times. Proof that they are one of the most respected roasters in the industry.

Monchie’s uses only native hogs for their lechon to ensure quality and flavor. They are famous for having one of the most flavorful La Loma lechon. They use tons of water, soy sauce, and honey to coat the pig’s skin, giving you salty hints of sweetness on the skin.

They also sell lechon manok (roasted chicken), chicharon bulaklak (deep-fried intestines), and barbecue.

If there’s one person to thank for the roasted pigs we enjoy today, it’s probably Tomas De Los Reyes. Also known as Mang Tomas, he is the first La Loma lechon roaster, catering to the cock owners and bettors who used to join cockfights at the nearby La Loma Cockpit Arena. He used to sell slabs of meat as pulutan (bar chow) to the day’s cockfight winners. To save time, he decided to roast a whole pig and just sell it in parts, and the best lechon in La Loma was born.

After opening his first lechonan (roastery) in 1951, many other roasters followed and started their own business. Today, his daughter-in-law, Corazon De Los Reyes, continues the La Loma lechon company to allow us to taste their succulent creation.

Aside from pioneering La Loma lechon, Mang Tomas is also the creator of the famed sauce we enjoy today. Although there’s a bottled one available in your nearest store, Mang Tomas’ heirs still create the sauce from scratch of their La Loma lechon, using finely chopped liver to keep the sauce rich and creamy.

The couple initially sold corn and has a small sari-sari (assorted) store. It is one of the early players in the lechon industry in Quezon City, following the footsteps of Tomas De Los Reyes, the first lechonero (roaster) in La Loma. Aside from providing its customers with the best Lal Loma lechon, the owner William Chua of Ping Ping’s Lechon is also an active industry advocate. He is currently leading the La Loma Lechonero’s Association, a group of roasters that ensures the selling of high-quality La Loma lechon. He is also the pioneer of Parada ng Mga Lechon (Parade of Lechon).

Ping Ping’s is the best lechon in La Loma and a way to go if you’re fond of slightly toasted skin on your lechon. They are known for their lechon’s crispy, nicely-charred skin that will give you a nice crunch in every bite. Their La Loma lechon is also known for making their own sarsa or lechon sauce with a liver to dip that juicy meat.
