We Filipinos are known for being family oriented. That’s why holidays like Mother’s and Father’s Day and the upcoming Grandparents Day are important to us. With the latter hovering just around the corner, you’re probably already looking for special Grandparents Day activities that you can do with your grandparents. Although eating out is a great idea, the metro offers more bonding opportunities than you think.

Here are a couple of family-friendly activities in Metro Manila that you can do with your lolo and lola.


1. Revisit Intramuros.

One fun activity you can do with the whole family is revisiting Intramuros. It holds beautiful sceneries and stories that all generations will enjoy, from your grandparents down to your younger siblings. Instead of aimlessly walking around the grounds of the Walled City, avail of the affordable walking tours to know more about Intramuros’ history.

Another special activity you can do this upcoming Grandparent’s Day is the Manila Bay Cruise. Run by Sun Cruises Manila, this tour is a unique way of enjoying the Manila skyline and appreciating a different perspective of Manila Bay.

The cruise starts at sunset, and you will be toured around the bay for an hour and a half with accompanying music and a sumptuous buffet. Your grandparents will surely enjoy the slow stroll of the yacht along the bay and the magnificent view of the glistening lights of SM Mall of Asia.

3. Watch a ballet show.

If your grandparents are fans of the performing arts, one good way to treat them this coming weekend is by watching a ballet show. Ballet Philippines, a renowned dance company in the country, is opening its 49th season this weekend at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, so what better way to treat your grandparents (and yourself) than watching one of their performances?

To open the season, Ballet Philippines will be performing Carmina Burana. Music will be provided by the Philippine Madrigal Singers and the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.


4. Visit a weekend market.

No two stalls are alike, so visit each and every one of them to make the most out of your trip.

It also houses various public art pieces that can be the perfect backdrop for a picnic with your family this coming Grandparents Day. In case you didn’t pack any food, several restaurants are also located around Ayala Triangle Gardens including Kanin Club, Banapple, and Blackbird.


7. Watch a musical.

But since the country is currently fighting a pandemic, it would be wiser to watch one within the comforts of your home. Some feel-good movie musicals you can watch with your grandparents are Hairspray, Mamma Mia, and La La Land.
