Every January, local and foreign tourists flock to Cebu to witness the grandest festival in the country: Sinulog. While the main event of Sinulog Festival 2019 is the grand parade on the third Sunday of January, the celebration actually starts long before it. Concerts, music festivals, and the Sinulog Grand Parade are among the events you can look forward to.

To help you come up with the perfect itinerary for your Sinulog trip, here’s a list of events lined up for Sinulog Festival 2019 this coming January.


1. Sugboanong Musika

When: January 11 to 18, 2019
Where: Fuente Osmeña Circle

With the likes of Pilita Corrales, Vina Morales, and Morissette Amon, Cebu has produced world-class singers that everyone can be proud of. In addition, the province is also home to numerous homegrown bands that have propagated the band culture in the South. You will have the chance to check out up-and-coming bands at the Sugboanong Musika during the week leading up to the Sinulog weekend. Touted as a festival of ages, the event will get your heart pumping and head banging as you prepare to celebrate the grandest festival in the country.




Tip: One thing to remember when attending concerts and music festivals is to wear something comfortable while watching the presentations.


2. Sinulog: Experience the Rage

When: January 18 to 29, 2918

Although street parties are not allowed close to the grand parade route, you can still have a great time at events in and around Metro Cebu. One of these events is the Sinulog: Experience the Rage, which will be held at the top EDM dance club in Cebu, Oqtagon. You can dance to the beats of Brightside, Boyet Illustrisimo, Cyrel Fernandez, MC Lemuel Cabilin, and Mak G.

Tip: Enjoying a night at the club is made more fun when you go out with your friends.




3. Sinulog Festival Queen Parade of Costumes

When: January 17, 2019; 6:00 PM
Where: SM City Cebu North Atrium, North Reclamation Area, Cebu City

The lead dancers of the different contingents will showcase their dancing skills and costumes during the Sinulog Festival Queen Parade of Costumes.

You can witness the parade of costumes of the different lead dancers of the Sinulog contingents at the Sinulog Festival Queen Parade of Costumes. The lead dancers will wear the costumes they will don during the Sinulog Grand Parade. You will also get the chance to see them dance to the Sinulog beat during the presentation. The event will give you a glimpse of what to look forward to during the main event on Sunday.

Tip: Since the event is open to the public, it is advisable to be at the venue before the event starts to find the best spot to watch the show.


4. Sinulog Festival Queen Coronation

When: January 18, 2019
Where: Cebu City Sports Center, Osmena Blvd, Cebu City

One event you should not miss if you are looking forward to the Sinulog Grand Parade is the coronation of the Sinulog Festival Queen. Aside from her innate beauty, the Sinulog Festival Queen is the best lead dancer from all contingents; she can dance to the rhythm of the Sinulog beat without fail. She sets the standard among all participants in the Sinulog Festival.




Tip: One thing to consider when attending beauty pageants is to know the dress code. You would not want to be underdressed or overdressed for the occasion.


5. Sinulog Fluvial Procession

When: January 19, 2019
Where: Mactan Channel
Price: Free

The Sinulog Fluvial Procession reenacts the arrival of the Image of the Holy Child in the Queen City of the South.

The Sinulog Fluvial Procession reenacts the bringing of the Child Jesus to his parents. Held a day before the Sinulog Grand Parade, the image of the Sto Nino is brought across the Mactan Channel on a boat representing a Spanish galleon. It is escorted by a flotilla of boats of different shapes and sizes, from a small outrigger boat to a Philippine Navy watercraft. A Philippine Air Force helicopter will fly over the convoy and shower it with flower petals as it makes its way back to Cebu.

Tip: To witness this awe-inspiring spectacle, it is best to wake up early since the procession starts at 6:00 AM.




6. Plus63 Music and Arts Festival

When: January 19, 2019
Where: Cebu Business Park, Cebu City
Price: PhP1,910 for Pre-Sale VIP; PhP850 for Pre-Sale General Admission

On the eve of the Sinulog Grand Parade, you can head off to the Cebu Business Park and dance to the beats of Ace Ramos, MC Pao, DJ Short, Victor Jao, MC Benson, and Kid Ink. The Plus63 Music and Arts Festival is a one-of-a-kind event that brings together the best local and foreign disc jockeys to the Queen City of the South. It gets you in a party mode in preparation for the Sinulog Grand Parade.

Tip: Get to the venue earlier to have best spot during the event.

7. Sinulog Grand Parade

When: JJanuary 20, 2019
Where: Start from the Basilica Minore Del Santo Nino
Price: Free

In addition to dancing on the streets of the city, the Sinulog participants will also display their talents on a stage at the Cebu City Sports Center.

The Sinulog Grand Parade is the most awaited event during the Sinulog Festival. It features contingents from different places in and around Cebu competing in different categories. Aside from Cebu-based contingents, the event will also have groups coming from other provinces in the country. This year, the Sinulog Grand Parade will have its first international participant after the director of Wonju Dynamic Dancing Carnival, Junhyung Ha, expressed the group’s intention to participate in the event. The participation of the South Korean contingent will definitely make the Sinulog Festival the grandest of all festivals in the country.




Tip: If you are planning to witness the Sinulog Grand Parade, it is important to have a good night’s rest and wear comfortable clothing so you can join in the fun.
