The holidays may be over, but it will still be a busy week in Boracay. The island’s version of the Ati-Atihan Festival will be conducted at the beginning of the week, well before the main festival event in Kalibo. For those joining the sadsad (street dancing) at the beach on Sunday, there’s good news: the sun is expected to come out during the week. Even after the weekend revelry, tourists are still expected to flock the island. Most of those who join the week-long Kalibo Ati-Atihan Festival are likewise expected to visit the Boracay afterwards.

Weather: Expect fair, mostly sunny weather

This week’s weather is suitable for outdoor and water activities as it will be mostly sunny throughout the week, except on Friday, which is expected to be rainy. Days are expected to begin with a light morning rain, but the sun will come out during the day. If you have a weak immune system, better be prepared with an umbrella as evenings are also expected to become cloudy with some light rains. The temperature during the week will range from 26 °C up to 28 °C [1].

Traffic News: Closed roads for Boracay Ati-Atihan

To give way for revelers during the Ati-Atihan in Boracay on January 13, the road from the corner of 24/7 Convenience Store in Station 1 to Willy’s Place will be closed from 6 AM to 6 PM [2]. All vehicles going to Yapak will need to pass through Bulabog Road and the Mt. Luho area. A motorcade and fluvial parade from Cagban Port to Willy’s Rock in Station 1 will also be held and will start at 4 AM.

Travel Updates

New port to attract more guests

The local council of Malay eye to open the port of Sambiray to attract more visitors and to allow tourists from Boracay to explore mainland destinations [3]. This suggestion aims to address the complaints raised by some tourists over the high cost of terminal fees of the existing ports in Caticlan. It was also suggested that tourists shall be exempted from paying a terminal fee when they pass by the port to visit mainland attractions. To note, tourists pay PhP100 when going to Boracay and another PhP100 upon exiting.

More compliant resorts added to the roster

More establishments continue to comply with the regulations of the task force for Boracay rehabilitation. As of this week, there are already 303 establishments that were given a certificate of compliance by the Department of Tourism [4]. These resorts and hotels comprise a total of 10,467 rooms. Tourists are only allowed to book accommodations from these compliant establishments.

Passed Guidelines: Stricter beach guidelines

Following the island's rehabilitation, activities and structures within the 25+5 easement along the White Beach are not allowed anymore [5]. Implementation of the said rule is now being intensified by the Local Government Unit of Malay.
