While locals and visitors are raring to join in the fun of the Sinulog week, rains are expected as the Sinulog Grand Parade approaches. Despite this, everyone is still expected to celebrate the grandest festival in the country. A week before the grand parade, some roads will be closed to give way to two Sinulog pre-events: the Sinulog sa Lalawigan and the Sinulog sa Barangay. Down by the Mactan Channel, the image of Señor Sto. Nino will board a fastcraft as it takes a short trip across the Mactan Channel. Hotels are also expecting an influx of tourists as the event draws closer. If you are planning to see Sinulog Grand Parade on January 20, you can expect tickets to become available this week.

Weather: Bed weather expected this week

The Sinulog week is off to a gloomy start as overcast skies and scattered rain showers rule over the Queen City of the South. A slight improvement is noted on Sunday and Monday as the sun peeks out from behind the clouds. This partly good weather continues until Wednesday with an occasional rain cloud hovering over Cebu. But the weather will start going downhill from this point as rain will start to fall until Friday. The bed weather week is capped with rain showers and thunderstorms a day before the Sinulog Grand Parade. Temperatures will range from 23 0C up to 31 0C [1].

Traffic News: Road closure for Sinulog activities

Wearing a good pair of shoes during the Sinulog week will be a good idea since some roads will be closed to vehicular traffic to make way for some activities [2]. On January 12, Osmeña Blvd from the Cebu Provincial Capitol up to the Cebu City Sports Center will be closed to make way for the Sinulog sa Lalawigan. On January 13, Osmeña Blvd from Plaza Independencia up to the Cebu City Sports Center will be closed to make way for the Sinulog sa Barangay. Both events are expected to start at 1:00 PM. On January 19, Osmeña Blvd, General Maxilom Avenue, and M.J. Cuenco Avenue will be closed to make way for the solemn procession of the image of the Sto. Niño.

Fastcraft to carry the image of Señor Sto. Nino during fluvial procession

This year’s fluvial procession will feature a newly-refurbished fastcraft from Roble Shipping Lines as the galleon replica for the image of Señor Sto. Nino [3]. MV Super Joy will carry the image of the Holy Child along with the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe across the Mactan Channel at dawn on January 19, 2019. The fluvial procession will start at the Naval Forces Central Visayas base in Lapu-Lapu City and end at Pier 1 in Cebu City.

Healthy bookings for hotels for the Sinulog

If you are planning to visit Cebu to witness the Sinulog Festival, it is advisable to book early since hotel bookings are increasing as the event approaches. Carlo Suarez, president of the Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu Inc. (HRRAC) said occupancy is increasing in hotels as tourists have started to book rooms in advance [4]. He added that tourist arrivals were not affected by the travel advisory of the United Kingdom following the recent bombing in Cotabato City. Suarez said they will know if all hotels in Cebu are fully booked around a week before the Sinulog Grand Parade.

Sinulog Grand Parade tickets available soon

Tickets to the Sinulog Grand Parade will be available this week—a week before the event. The availability of the tickets was delayed to prevent the proliferation of fake tickets. Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak, Sinulog Foundation Inc (SFI) executive committee chairman, said ticket reservations are already being accepted even if the tickets are not yet available [5]. Ticket prices range from PhP1,000 for the green and pink tickets up to PhP3,000 for the red tickets.
