With the closure of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, heavy traffic in Mandaluyong and Makati is expected.

This week, the usual unpredictable weather will loom over the city and heavy traffic in Metro Manila, particularly in areas near Mandaluyong and Makati, is expected due to the closing of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge on January 12. Travelers heading to the two cities are expected to find alternative routes such as the Guadalupe Bridge. Lastly, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will charge bigger fines for those who will violate parking rules.

Weather: A mix of sunny, cloudy, and rainy weather in Metro Manila

The weather in Metro Manila will be a mix of sunny, cloudy, and rainy day for the whole week. The temperature will range from 29 °C to 31 °C during daytime but for night time it will be colder with temperatures ranging from 21 °C to 23 °C [1]. Because of the weather’s unpredictability, travelers and tourists should be prepared for both the sun and the rain. When travelling during night time, bring a cardigan or hoodie as protection from cold winds. Continue to monitor the weather situation by watching the news or reading newspapers.

Traffic News: Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge will be closed to the public

Those who are commuting between Mandaluyong and Makati City should expect heavier traffic because the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge or Rockwell Bridge will be closed to traffic starting January 12, 8:00 AM for its reconstruction. The closure of the bridge was originally set last September 2018, but it was moved due to complaints from motorists. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) did not state any specific date for reopening, but the bridge widening is expected to be finished in 2021. The DPWH expects motorists to use the Guadalupe Bridge as an alternative [2].

Passed ordinance: MMDA will collect higher fines for illegal parking

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has started to collect higher fines for illegal parking last January 7, 2019. According to the report, the fine was raised from PhP200 to PhP1,000 for illegally parked vehicles, while the fine for unattended vehicles was changed from PhP500 to PhP2,000. In addition, MMDA also raised the fine for traffic obstruction from PhP150 to PhP1,000 [3].
