Manila, travel, things to do

The rehabilitation of Manila Bay will start this week.

Metro Manila will face several renovations and rehabilitations this week that will help improve the state of transportation, tourism, and the environment. First, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) launched the new environment-friendly electric jeepneys (e-jeep). Second, the Makati City Government implemented a new measure that aims to ease the traffic volume caused by the closure of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge. And lastly, the initial step for the rehabilitation of the Manila Bay will start this January 27.

Weather: Partly sunny and cloudy weather

The weather will be pleasantly sunny for most of the week with a slight chance of light showers on some days. It will be ideal for tourists who will be engaging in outdoor activities or travelling all over the city. Because the temperature will be a little warm at 29 °C to 32 °C, wearing clothes made from light fabrics will help lessen the heat [1]. Bringing an umbrella and applying sunscreen will also be helpful in dealing with the sun’s harmful rays. Since the weather might change at the last minute, monitor the weather by watching the news.

Traffic News

New e-jeeps will ply Makati to Mandaluyong route

DOTr and LTFRB has launched the “e-sakay” program in which 15 units of e-jeeps will ply a route from Makati to Mandaluyong. The e-jeeps will use the Buendia MRT to Mandaluyong City Hall via Jupiter Street route. Besides being environment friendly, the bus also features CCTV cameras, WiFi connection, GPS, and USB charging ports. Despite all the amenities, the basic fare would be at PhP9 and will be collected via an automated fare collection system [2].

Rerouting scheme implemented in Makati City

To alleviate the traffic that is expected around Makati and Mandaluyong over the closure of the Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge, the Makati City Government implements a new route. The rerouting scheme will be implemented along Ayala Avenue and Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue.

Under the rerouting, the entire stretch of Makati Avenue from J.P Rizal Avenue up to Sen. Gil Puyat will be a one-way street. Those who will be heading towards the Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge must take a right turn to P. Burgos Street and get to the J.P Rizal Avenue and Makati Avenue intersection then take another right turn to get to the bridge. Meanwhile, those who turn left along Sen. Gil Puyat en route to Salcedo Village are advised to take the Zuellig Loop. Anyone going to the Central Business District from Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge can take a right turn to J.P Rizal Avenue, then left to N. Garcia Street, then right to Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue, and left turn at Ayala Avenue [3].

Travel Update: Rehabilitation of Manila Bay begins

The first phase of the Manila Bay rehabilitation program will start this January 27. The Manila Bay will be undergoing rehabilitation to clear the area from trash that affects the water’s ecolife. There are no further reports yet if the bay will be closed to the public. However, establishments near the bay such as hotels and restaurants might be closed if they violated any measures such as improper waste disposal [4].
