Areas like Binondo would be flocked by tourists during the Chinese New Year.
The Filipino-Chinese communities in Metro Manila will celebrate the Lunar New Year on February 5, a national holiday, so several areas might be crowded during the Chinese New Year 2019 celebrations. The festivities that come with the holiday can be celebrated in fair weather, as it is expected to be pleasant and sunny all week. In terms of transportation, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have opened 20 new routes that will improve the traffic flow around the Paranaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX).
Weather: Pleasantly sunny weather this week
The first week of February will be generally sunny. The weather forecast suggests that there would be plenty of sunshine the entire week, making it ideal for outdoor trips and festivities on Chinese New Year this February 5. The temperature is expected to be at around 31 to 32° C [1]. However, the amihan or northeast monsoon might make the temperature a little colder than expected during both day and night time. Wearing clothing made from light materials will help alleviate heat, but it is also suggested to bring jackets or sweaters to combat the cold winds.
Traffic News: DOTR and LTFRB releases 20 routes to aid traffic around PITX
Under Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 2019-005, DOTR and LTFRB released 20 new routes that will improve the traffic flow around the PITX. Ten of these routes are allocated for public utility buses, eight for class 2 and 3 public utility jeepneys, and two for UV Express vehicles. The routes are as follows [2]:
Areas with Filipino-Chinese communities such as Binondo are expected to be crowded than usual due to the Chinese New Year festivities on February 5. Anyone who plans on travelling to the area or any destinations nearby can expect heavy traffic. Malls will have the same operating schedules during the day [3].
Hotel availability
Most hotels in Metro Manila still have available rooms, so tourists going to the city for Chinese New Year can still book accommodations [4].
