Aircraft queues before it takes off

The weather in Bacolod this week will allow you to enjoy the long weekend brought by the EDSA Revolution celebration on February 25. When heading to south Negros, you may happen to pass by the newly concreted road project in Barangay Locotan, Kabankalan City. Said project is now serving the public to provide better transport system. Meanwhile, in Cadiz City, roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro) ship LCT Valentina Dos started its port operation to transport vehicles going to and from Cebu City and Cadiz City. Lastly, two private companies are eyeing to take over the expansion of the Bacolod-Silay International Airport. Read on for the full details on these developments.

Weather Advisory: Mostly sunny

Cheerful skies will bring in pleasant weather to Bacolod City from Sunday until Tuesday. Meanwhile on Wednesday, some areas will be partly cloudy, leading to a drop in the day’s temperature. But the next day, sunshine will prevail again, so make sure to have some sunblock and bottled water handy to keep your skin healthy and hydrated. On Friday, just a few patches of grey clouds are expected. Plenty of sunshine can be enjoyed on the weekend, so use the good weather to bond with your family and friends outside. As far as the temperature is concerned, this week will likely hover around 30 °C to 32 °C [1].

Traffic News: Newly concreted road now serving the residents in Kabankalan

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Negros Occidental Third District Engineering Office has completed paving the 718 lineal metes of road and five-meter wide pavement concrete road project in Barangay Locotan, Kabankalan City [2].

Approximately 561 residents of the said barangay who are now benefitting from the road believe that better and faster transport system in the area will improve. It will also provide better road network in isolated areas in Kabankalan City.

One of the purposes of implementing this infrastructure project is to lessen the insurgency cases. The project will also ensure delivery of farm products on the conflict-affected communities and that they will not be left behind in the socio-economic development in the town.

Travel Update: LCT Valentina Dos now operating in Cadiz Port

Good news to all Cadiznon and neighboring cities! A roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro) ship, LCT Valentina Dos started its operations last February 13 to and from Cadiz City Commercial Port and Sta. Fe Port in Bantayan Island, Cebu.

LCT Valentina Dos departs Cadiz port at 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Same schedule is implemented at the Sta. Fe Port in Cebu. The travel time going to and from Cebu City to Cadiz City is approximately four hours.

This cargo vessel-designed ship carries wheeled cargo such as cars, trucks, semi-trailer trucks, trailers, and railroad cars. The cargo fees of the vessel are as follows: PhP3,000 for cars or sports utility vehicles;PhP6,000 for canters; and P8, 000 for 10-wheeler trucks. For most cargo vessels, LCT Valentina Dos also includes the driver’s fare in the rates mentioned but an extra person will be charged PhP280. Regular passengers will be accommodated by March this year [3].

Private companies proposed to take over Bacolod-Silay Airport’s expansion

In December 2018, CAAP received unsolicited proposals from Udenna Infrastructure Corporation’s and Canada’s Airtrav Inc. These proposals are to take over the Bacolod-Silay Airport for the expansion, augmentation, operations, and maintenance [4].

Bacolod City Representative Greg Gasataya said that the proposed expansion will be beneficial for the riding public because the airport’s runway will be able to accommodate overseas flights—one of the requirements to become an international airport.

Meanwhile, Congressman Gasataya mentioned that he will look into the matter first and will clarify if the expansion is a joint venture or if the airport will be privatized. He admitted that the airport terminal needs to be rehabilitated. To provide better customer service, the repairs of comfort rooms and air-conditioning system and the addition of x-ray machines should be done. However, he added that there is also a possibility that the proposed expansion may affect the terminal fees, which must also be considered.
