With cloudy skies and humid air to expect this week, some areas in Bacolod City will experience rain showers mostly in the afternoon. If you have appointments in the downtown area, make sure to park your cars properly and follow the traffic rules to avoid being apprehended by the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO). In relation to traffic, the BREDCO Port Management has now implemented a new policy on traffic and gate rerouting to the vehicles going in and out of the terminal. Meanwhile, if you’re visiting Bacolod this week or anytime this summer, try to visit the Negros Museum to see “Bao” the “unbowed carabao,” a collaboration between two Negrense artists.

Weather Advisory: Sunny and cloudy with short rain coming

Despite the thunderstorm and spotty showers that may develop this week, summer is still in full swing and it is still going to be humid in Bacolod City. With the intervals of clouds and sunshine, showers will not last long, so they won’t stop you from doing your summer activities. This week’s temperature will range from 33 °C to 35 °C [1]. It’s scorching hot, so if you want to go somewhere else in the city, bring with you an umbrella.

Traffic News: BTAO to strictly enforce anti-jaywalking and traffic rules

Be aware of the traffic rules when getting around Bacolod City. The Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) will strictly enforce anti-jaywalking ordinance and traffic rules, as recommended by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) [2]. The head of BTAO, Police Lieutenant Colonel Luisito Acebuche, said that violators, including those who park in the roads, will be apprehended. Two teams of traffic enforcers have already been deployed to various areas, especially at the downtown area. He added that a traffic management master plan will be finalized by end of this month.

Travel Update: BREDCO Port implements new terminal traffic and gate rerouting for vehicles

Just recently, the management of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (BREDCO) port in Bacolod City has received complaints and negative reactions regarding their new passenger terminal’s service. Romeo Casela, Officer-In-Charge of BRECO port, explained that during the initial phase of the operation, they allowed private vehicles and public transportation to close-in to the terminal to drop off passengers only.

However, some vehicle owners abused the policy by leaving their vehicles unattended and locked while they went to travel. This situation might cause inconveniences in the future, since the number of boarding passengers occupying the terminal can reach up to 2,600 to 3,000 [3]. With that, the BREDCO Management is now securing the entry of vehicles in the terminal by implementing traffic and gate rerouting.

Tourism News: ‘Unbowed carabao’ sculpture is now open to the public

As a tribute to the spirit of Visayan artists, two Negrense artists, sculptor Paeng Paderna and mosaic artist Lisa de Leon-Zayco, teamed up to create a sculpture called “Bao” the “unbowed carabao” [4]. “Bao” is made of concrete, brass, and tesserae. The carabao’s head depicts the triumph over trials, while the mosaic tesserae show the diverse stories woven together in one heritage. This creation is now open to the public at the Negros Museum. More to see at the museum are a back-to-back exhibition featuring both Paderna and Leon-Zayco’s art pieces.
