The month of June starts with the transition from dry to rainy season. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has yet to declare the official start of the rainy season but they advised that Metro Manila will be more rainy for the following weeks.
In other news, commuters who frequently ride UV Express will have to adjust to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB)’s Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 2019-25, which limits UV Express vans to pick up and drop off passengers only in terminals. Lastly, the Marcos Highway Bridge has been partially closed to pave way for its renovation. See the complete details below.
Weather: More rainy days are coming to Manila
Expect more showers in Manila this week according to PAGASA’s latest advisory [1]. The country is currently in its transition from summer to rainy season so thunderstorms will become more frequent. However, days will remain humid with temperatures that range from 33 °C to 36 °C [2].
Essentials like umbrellas and other rain protection gears will be handy, as will outerwear such as cardigans and hoodies. Stand by for weather updates from PAGASA or watch the news to be updated on the latest weather report.
Traffic News
LTFRB amends UV Express pick up and drop off policy
LTFRB issued MC No. 2019-25, which amends MC 2009-19. The latest MC removes the previous two-kilometer radius policy. Under this previous rule, UV Express vehicles can pick up and drop off passengers within two kilometers of their assigned endpoints. With the new memo, passengers could only board and get off at UV Express terminals and not at any point in between [3].
Closure of Marcos Highway Bridge expected to cause heavy traffic
Heads up to commuters who pass by the Marcos Highway on a daily basis: expect heavier traffic around the area for four months. According to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), commuters and private car owners can take the following alternate routes [4]:
• Light vehicles heading to Quezon City can take the taxi bay or service road of SM City Marikina.
• Light vehicles from Cubao can take the westbound lane from Antipolo.
