Grab deactivated 8,000 drivers, which could affect the supply and demand for the transportation service.

Mid-June in Metro Manila remains busy as the entire country prepares for the arrival of the typhoon season. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGSA) hasn’t announced the start of the rainy season yet, but the Philippine Red Cross encourages the public to prepare emergency kits as early as now. Besides the weather, another thing that locals and tourists must be ready for is a harder time booking Grab vehicles after the company deactivated 8,000 uncredited drivers.

Weather: Mixed weather to last throughout the week

It will remain humid the entire week, but expect thunderstorms to occur in some parts of the afternoon. The day temperature will range from 32 °C to 34 °C [1], which means that days would still be humid. To ease the heat, wear comfortable clothing, preferably ones made from cotton. Also bring an umbrella to shield against both the sun and rain. Continue to monitor the news or PAGASA’s website for weather updates or announcements regarding the start of the typhoon season.

The Philippine Red Cross urges the public to be prepared for the looming typhoon season in the country by packing emergency kits. The emergency kit should contain food, water, medicines, money, and important documents.

Traffic News: Expect harder Grab bookings in Metro Manila

After Grab deactivated 8,000 uncredited drivers last June 10, regular users of the app can expect a harder time to book a car due to the shortage of drivers. Besides the longer waiting time, price surges are also likely to occur [3].

Grab deactivated drivers who have not provided proof that they were granted a provisional authority by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB). According to the LTFRB, more than 5,000 provisional authorities are not yet claimed by their applicants [4].
