Metro Manila, travel, things to do, weather, Manila day

Rainy season officially kicks off.

Metro Manila will be eventful this week with the celebration of Manila Day on the 24th—which is a special non-working holiday in the city [1]. This year would be the 448th foundation anniversary of the city. Meanwhile, the start of the rainy season has been officially declared by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services (PAGASA).

In terms of traffic, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will release a route modification of provincial buses in line with the bus ban along EDSA. The LTFRB also suspended the proposed UV Express point-to-point (P2P) plan. Lastly, Resorts World Manila will finally reopen its casino second floor, which was the site of the 2017 shooting incident.

Weather: PAGASA officially declares start of rainy season

The rainy season has been officially declared by PAGASA [2], and rainfalls are predicted to occur all week. Expect frequent light showers and thunderstorms. The temperature will range from 31 °C to 34 °C during the day [3]. If you’re planning to go outside, make sure to bring an umbrella and other items for rain protection. Monitor the news and PAGASA’s website and social media pages for more updates.

LTFRB shortens routes of provincial buses; EDSA bus ban to take effect

Provincial buses wouldn’t be allowed on EDSA before the end of June as the LTFRB is set to implement new route modifications. The modification would remove franchise routes of buses. This move is in line with the provincial bus ban of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

The new policy will have provincial buses from the south end their route at a bus terminal in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. On the other hand, buses from the north are only allowed at a bus terminal in Valenzuela City [4].

LTFRB suspends the proposed UV Express P2P plan

After engaging in a discussion with a commuter and transport group, the LTFRB decided to hold off the Memorandum Circular 2019-25, which proposes terminal-to-terminal policy for UV Express vehicles [5].

Resorts World Manila to reopen second floor of the casino

Resorts World Manila announced the reopening of the casino second floor in July. It has been closed since 2017, when a deadly shooting incident occurred in the area. The floor is expected to contain 165 tables and 1,000 slot machines [6].

Expect Manila Day celebrations in Manila

If you’re planning on going to Manila this week, expect Manila Day festivities in several parts of the city. The official day festivities are yet to be announced but anticipate crowds in several of Manila’s tourist attractions and malls since it is a special non-working holiday.
