Weather Advisory: Afternoons thunderstorms in the horizon

Wet weather this week is expected as heavy clouds will develop thunderstorms and afternoon showers. A blend of sun and clouds will show a bit by the weekend. Getting around the city will be a challenge for commuters and tourists and will require patience especially during heavy downpours.

It is recommended to keep your rain gears ready to be protected not only from getting wet but also from contracting diseases like flu and colds. The temperature this week will range from 29 °C to 32 °C [1].

Traffic News: Structures demolished along Bacolod Economic Highway

Fifteen illegal structures were recently demolished in Barangay Sum-ag, Bacolod City. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the City Legal Office (CLO)-Enforcement team initiated the clearing operations.

The City Government also assisted in the demolition. One of the demolished structures was the tricycle terminal at Bacolod Economic Highway (BEH).

In 2017, PhP300 million was funded for the construction of a three-kilometer portion of the BEH Phase 1 in Barangay Sum-ag as part of the 21-kilometer economic highway. The whole project has a total cost of PhP4.8 billion [2].

Bacolod-Clark flights to start this August

One of the leading airline industries in the country, Cebu Pacific Air, announced that their new flight operation between Bacolod City in Negros Occidental and Clark in Pampanga will launch on August 9, 2019 [3].

Chichi Bautista, Cebu Pacific’s Area Sales Manager for Visayas, revealed the news during the Clark Trade and Tourism Session at L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City. She stated that this new route will help ease the congestion in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila. This will also open investment opportunities for the two provinces.

Updates on the province’s tourism development plan

The Department of Tourism (DOT) in Western Visayas urged the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental to revisit the tourism development plan of the province.

The DOT-Western Visayas, Provincial Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Cristine Mansinares, and Director Helen Catalbas discussed the new road development projects. These projects lead to tourism sites in Negros Occidental.

The discussion includes their plan to add new road networks to boost the provinces’ tourism sites. Recognized by the regional line agency, DOT-Western Visayas said that strong road networks will lead to better economy and investments [4]. The deadline for these plans was set to be December this year.
