Candle holders as jack-o-lanterns

As much as we Filipinos love Christmas and the holidays, we too, enjoy Halloween. With the folklore that we grew up listening to and the spooky stories that our elders told to scare (and discipline) us, it’s no surprise that we’re fascinated with all things spooky. But aside from the horror stories, the parties are the ones that we also look forward to! The dressing up and the candies just add to the fun.

If you’re planning to throw a trick or treat party, we’ve gathered the best places to find Halloween party-related items that are easy on the wallet and are pleasing to the eyes. From candies to costumes, check our list of shops for your Halloween needs.

1. Divisoria

Address: Tondo, Manila
What to buy: Costumes, masks, and Halloween paraphernalia

Creepy costumes for the kids at Divisoria

Divisoria will always be our top resource for anything and everything! And if you’re already running out of time as well as funds, this is the best place to get your Halloween supplies. From costumes to designs and displays, and even sweets, Divisoria’s number of shops will give you plenty of options. You can also haggle for the prices of the items that you want to buy especially if you’re buying in bulk. Aside from the usual trick or treat items that you need, you can also buy toys instead of sweets for the kids and candles to give your place a creepier vibe.

How to get there: From LRT Line 2 Recto station, ride jeepneys going to Divisoria.

2. Greenhills Shopping Center

Address: Ortigas Ave, San Juan, 1502 Metro Manila

Add these pearls to your costume that you can use even after the party

If you are from the south and don’t have all the energy in the world to travel to Divisoria, another great option is Greenhills Shopping Center. Greenhills boasts of over 2,000 stalls that sell everything from toys to clothing and jewelry. If you are a true-blue bargain hunter, you can be creative when you are shopping at their stalls and fashion a look that is uniquely yours!

Instead of buying the typical costumes, here you can be fashionable and inventive with their overwhelming collection of clothes and accessories. Instead of dressing up as the usual white lady or the sexy nurse, with Greenhills’ selection you can let out your creativity by dressing up as your favorite fictional book character or television star. You can also level up your game by buying wigs and hair extensions. Imitate Ariana Grande’s high ponytail look or Katy Perry’s blue hair—the possibilities are endless if you let your creativity flow.

How to get there: From MRT Santolan station, walk towards Annapolis St. then ride jeepneys going to Greenhills Shopping Center

3. Dapitan Arcade

Address: Dapitan St., corner Kanlaon St., Brgy. Santa Teresita, Quezon City, Metropolitan Manila

People from the north have another option if you are not too fond of traveling all the way to Divisoria and that is Dapitan Arcade. Hidden in the heart of Quezon City, you’ll see this little establishment just before you cross towards Welcome Rotonda. You just have to keep a keen eye because the store is a little bit hard to find.

Once you find Dapitan Arcade, you will feast your eyes on various display items such as quirky porcelains, wall ornaments, and even authentic drawers and dividers made of wood. If you are done with costume shopping, Dapitan Arcade is the best place to make your home spookier with their themed items. Planning to throw a Halloween party? You can buy a couple of Halloween-inspired jars and unique porcelains or other ‘old-school’ items to make your home fun this scary holiday. You can take advantage of the vintage items sold in the area like creepy-looking dressers or candle holders to create a Victorian-themed trick or treat party.

How to get there: From MRT Quezon Ave. station, ride jeeps going to Quiapo then alight at Kanlaon St. Ride another jeep with signboard “Del Monte Mayon Dapitan Welcome Rotonda” then alight at Dapitan Arcade.
