Metro Manila offers plenty of interesting events even for rainy September.

The “ber” months have officially started and events in Metro Manila show no sign of slowing down. Two big expos will happen this week. Newly engaged couples can visit Wedding Expo Philippines from September 9 and 10 at the SMX Convention Center. For those looking to expand their food business, the Food and Drinks Asia will take place at the World Trade Center on September 7 to 10. The week concludes with Grandparents Day on Sunday.


Grandparents Day

Grandparents have a special day just for them too.


This year, Grandparents Day falls on September 10. The holiday was first established in the United States by then-president Jimmy Carter. He proclaimed that the first Sunday after Labor Day shall be Grandparents Day. The Philippines adopted the American schedule for Grandparents day. However, the day is only an observed holiday. Office and school work would not be affected.


Damiana’s Kitchen

One can bond with grandparents in Damiana’s, a homely restaurant serving Filipino dishes.


Modern Filipino restaurant Damiana’s Kitchen now has a branch in Legazpi, Village Makati. Damiana’s was established by brother-and-sister chefs in honor of their maternal grandmother, who influenced them to love food.

The menu includes fried staples like calamares (deep-fried squid rings) and lechon sisig (sizzling fried and diced roasted pig). They also have traditional Filipino food like adobo (marinated chicken or pork), tinolang manok (ginger chicken soup with papaya) and pininyahang manok (pineapple chicken in coconut milk).


Wedding Expo Philippines

Thousands of wedding ideas can be seen at Wedding Expo Philippines.


Couples planning their wedding can visit the 31st Wedding Expo Philippines which will happen from September 9 to 10 at the SMX Convention Center. Visiting couples can check the latest wedding trends and styles so they can have the memorable wedding they want.

The expo will feature booths from wedding organizers, suppliers, and gown designers. Wedding Expo Philippines is the biggest wedding fair in Asia, and the longest-running wedding fair in the Philippines. The expo is organized by Themes and Motifs.


Food and Drinks Asia 2017

Food & Drinks Asia 2017 is for food makers, distributors, and lovers alike.


From September 7 to 10, the World Trade Center at Pasay City will be filled with over 500 booths from the food and hospitality industry, plus 300 companies in attendance. The four-day event will include cooking competitions, demonstrations, and seminars.

Companies can establish partnerships with other companies at the event. Local and international exhibitors will be present at the expo to showcase their products and services. Celebrity chef Boy Logro will also make an appearance on the expo for a cooking demonstration.


Rainy weather up ahead

The “ber” months will start with lots of rain.


The weather in Metro Manila for the whole week will be rainy. Mornings will have thunderstorms which may persist through the afternoons. The sun will shine partly on Thursday, September 7 but will be accompanied by thick layers of clouds. The minimum temperature for the week is 24°C while the maximum temperature is 26°C.


LTFRB distributes five-year driver’s licenses

Republic Act No. 10930 now allows drivers use their licenses longer.


The Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) have started to distribute new driver’s licenses which can now last up to five years. The Land Transportation Office (LTO)is now accepting applications and renewal requests for new driver’s licenses, but can only accommodate 400 applicants per day.

Republic Act No. 10930 applies to professional and non-professional licenses, but not to student permits.

Drivers without any violations within five years will also be entitled to renew their licenses to 10 years.


Katipunan road widening project

Katipunan Ave is a busy area surrounded by UP Diliman and Ateneo de Manila University


The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has kicked off the road widening project along Katipunan Avenue in front of the University of the Philippines Diliman campus, in between Shuster Street to C.P Garcia Avenue. Two additional 720-meters lane will be built.

The project aims to lessen intense traffic around the area, especially during peak hours. DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said that the goal is to finish the project before December 2017.
