Christmas in the Philippines means family reunions, gift-giving, and food—lots and lots of food. Our love of feasting and sharing runs deep in our roots, so it is no surprise that regardless of how big or small the budget is, preparing Noche Buena is a holiday must.

To help out with the Christmas preparation, we’ve listed down the most well-known and well-trusted supermarkets in Metro Manila to help every kind of shopper pull off their Christmas feast. Check it out and see which grocery store could meet your Christmas plans.


1. The Landmark Supermarket

The Landmark Supermarket, generally called Landmark, might not be popular among shoppers, but they have been in operation since 1988. First established in Makati, Landmark contains a supermarket, a department store, and a food court. The supermarket in Metro Manila became known for its wide offerings of products, such as fresh produce, diverse meat selections, and even international brands not readily available in the country. This well-curated grocery store might just be the place for a shopper who is meticulous with his or her shopping needs.

Aside from their location in Makati, they also have one in TriNoma Mall in Quezon City, and one in Festival Mall in Alabang.


2. Walter Mart

During the economic crisis in the early 1990s, Wilson Lim decided to take the fiscal obstacle as a challenge and build a business. The result is Walter Mart, a chain that is most known for its supermarket in Metro Manila, but has since expanded to full-blown malls, with some branches even containing cinemas.

For shoppers who are too busy to even visit a grocery store, Walter Mart also delivers. In 2015, the brand introduced GroceryDelivery.com.ph, an online supermarket where shoppers can pay through card or cash to get shopping done even while at home.


3. Puregold

Shoppers who want everything under one roof and one floor might find Puregold a good option. Established in 1998, this supermarket in Metro Manila aims to provide basic commodities such as food, home needs, and clothing and apparel in one floor to give shoppers a convenient and fast way of getting their shopping done.

With over 200 grocery stores all over the country, shoppers will not have difficulty in finding a Puregold in their area. The brand has since expanded and now also has Puregold Jr. and Puregold Extra.


4. Robinsons Supermarket

With a slogan of “We Love Wellness,” Robinsons Supermarket in Metro Manila is fit for shoppers who are planning for a healthier and greener Christmas. The chain, which is committed to providing the freshest produce, partnered with the Food and Nutrition Research and Institute of the Philippines (FNRI) to provide shoppers products that passed their codex standard of nutrition.

Aside from their line of grocery stores, Robinsons also started Robinsons Easymart to provide accessible markets in small neighborhoods. For those who are looking for imported items, Robinsons Selections offers items from various international brands.




5. Rustan’s Supermarket

Rustan’s Supermarket caters to shoppers who prefer high-quality, international brands. It is known for carrying international brands that are not readily available to other grocery stores. If one misses a particular wine or chocolate from abroad, chances are they might be available in Rustan’s.

This supermarket in Metro Manila is also partnered with Hong Kong-based retail company Dairy Farm and turned some of their supermarkets into Marketplace by Rustan’s. It contains a wide selection of wines, gourmet delis, and fresh produce for shoppers with sophisticated palates.


6. SM Supermarket

For shoppers who look for convenience and want to do everything in one go, there’s SM Supermarket in Metro Manila which is located in SM malls. It houses various wet and dry goods, home essentials, and the like. SM grocery stores are also known to offer services for bills payment, money exchange, and remittances. It also has ATMs and a pharmacy to make a shopper’s trip to the grocery store worth the time.

SM Supermarket has also expanded to SM Hypermarket and Savemore. SM Hypermarket is a line of markets that offers non-food items like school supplies, apparel, and the like. Savemore, on the other hand, is a series of stand-alone markets that does away with the need to visit an SM mall for grocery shopping.

Metro Supermarket in Metro Manila is one of the biggest names in terms of retail in Cebu City. The Gaisano family opened their first Metro store in Colon, Cebu, and has now expanded to various parts of Visayas and Luzon. Metro Supermarket might be fit for shoppers who want one-stop shops.

Aside from the grocery store, most branches also have Suisse Cottage, a bakery that produces freshly-baked pastries and bread. Shoppers who are planning a wine and cheese party this Christmas can check out Metro Gourmet, a café and deli that also offers international cheeses, pasta, and more.




8. S&R

When S&R Membership Shopping started in the Philippines in 2001 it presented a new way of shopping. It is among the first supermarkets in Metro Manila that introduced a members-only supermarket to consumers. Aside from the exclusivity, S&R also features a mix of international and local brands under one roof.

This grocery store would be fit for shoppers who feel like hoarding imported items, as S&R sells items in large sizes and quantities. The store is also known for its meat and seafood selections which are packed meticulously and delivered regularly to ensure freshness.


9. Landers Superstore

Following the trend of members-only supermarkets in Metro Manila, Landers Superstore opened just this 2016 to give S&R a run for its money. Shoppers who love tagging the whole family along when getting their grocery done may be comfortable shopping in Landers.

Aside from being spacious this grocery store offers both local and international products, Landers also has a bakeshop, a fast food restaurant, a gasoline station, and a barbershop.


10. Cash & Carry Mall

Cash & Carry Mall has been well loved by the residents of Makati since 1974 because it offers wet and dry goods as well as local and popular international brands.

Aside from this, what made Cash and Carry popular are its PX stores. these supermarkets in Metro Manila are groups of stores that sell imported items like chips, chocolates, bags, and perfumes at a discounted amount. Shoppers who are planning to give away sweets this holiday might want to pay Cash and Carry Mall’s PX stores a visit.
