Yoorekka visits Balintawak Market for this price watch!

In today’s price watch, we visited Balintawak Public Market along EDSA and Old Samson Road in Quezon City to check the availability of its basic goods and their corresponding prices. The following is a list of goods and items such as rice, seasoning, meat, produce, and canned goods.


Rice

The price of rice at Balintawak Public Market ranges from PhP50 to PhP75 per kilogram (kg) depending on the variety. Angelica is at PhP52/kg; dinurado sells at PhP62/kg; and malagkit sells at PhP75/kg.

NFA rice is not sold at Balintawak Public Market.


Sugar, Salt, Pepper

Brown sugar sells for PhP49/kg while white sugar sells for PhP58/kg. Meanwhile, salt is sold for PhP10/kg, and whole ground pepper by the sachet is priced at PhP5 each.


Fish, Meat, and Poultry

Balintawak Public Market’s tilapia is priced at PhP100/kg, galunggong at PhP130/kg, and white milkfish at PhP180/kg.

Pork in cubes/adobo cut sells for PhP190/kg. Meanwhile, beef prices vary depending on cut: buto sells for PhP250/kg, ribs for also PhP250/kg, laman for PhP320/kg, and sirloin cut for PhP350/kg.

Poultry is priced at PhP135/kg. The price for one tray of eggs depends on the size: small is PhP450, large is PhP520, and extra large is PhP570.


Vegetables

The prices of various vegetables in Balintawak Public Market are as follows: red onion, PhP55/kg; garlic, PhP60/kg; tomatoes, PhP30/kg; siling labuyo, PhP400/kg; potatoes, PhP70/kg; carrots, PhP100/kg; cabbages, PhP300/kg; pechay, PhP40/kg; kangkong, PhP60 per bundle.


Fruits

Various types of banana are available at the market: lakatan is sold for PhP47/kg, saba for PhP30/kg, and latundan for PhP25 and PhP30 per kilo depending on size.

The prices of apples also vary on the size and can either go for PhP12, PhP25, or PhP30. One piece of orange, however, goes for PhP25.


Canned goods

The price of canned tuna starts at PhP29 per 155g can; corned beef is at PhP28 per 155g can; sardines at PhP16.50 per 155g can; and meatloaf at PhP27 per 260g. These are the lowest noted prices; the cost may be higher depending on the brand.


In terms of product availability, all items are well stocked as of writing except for NFA rice.
