Several restaurants and establishments will now give discounts and freebies to inoculated Filipinos.

Several restaurants and businesses will offer a “vaccine discount” to vaccinated individuals, starting June 1, as part of the Ingat Angat Bakuna Lahat campaign to encourage more Filipinos to get vaccinated since many are still hesitant. Aside from promoting vaccination, the move can also help businesses that are affected during the pandemic.

Last May 20, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ramon Lopez confirmed that restaurant owners have already planned to provide discounts. Lopez adds that restaurant groups have different levels of discounts. Some establishments have reportedly already started practicing this before June 1.

As of May 14, reports said that over 130 restaurants have already agreed to give discounts to individuals who can show their vaccination cards. Resto.Ph’s President Eric Teng hopes that the public will be responsible and provide valid documents to prove that they are vaccinated. To avail of the discounts, customers must dine in at the establishments. However, the vaccine discount can’t be combined with other discounts for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Senator Richard Gordon also announced that they are coordinating with Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks regarding incentives. So far, the two businesses have agreed. McDonald Philippines also confirmed that they are currently planning to provide food discounts as part of their campaign to educate Filipinos about vaccines and boost their vaccine confidence. As for small local businesses, some are also open to the idea. Aside from food and beverage establishments, retailers like hardware stores, shoe stores, department stores, and pharmacies will also give away freebies or discounts. The initiative is not required for all establishments since it’s only for those who want to volunteer. Each establishment can also decide on its tactics to encourage more Filipinos.

Some of the businesses and establishments that will participate in the project include Jollibee Foods Corp, Goldilocks, Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, BDO Unibank, Cebu Pacific, Megaworld, Foodpanda Philippines, SM Supermalls, Resto.Ph, Philippine Seven Corp, Unilab, and Zuellig Pharma.

Media and tech companies like Facebook, Twitter, Google, Kapamilya Channel, GMA, TV5, TAPE, and KBP have also committed to boosting DOH’s vaccine information campaign.
