How Clark Freeport Is Preparing For Its COVID-19 Vaccination Rollout

Different areas in the Philippines have commenced their respective COVID-19 vaccination rollout. Numerous frontliners, senior citizens, and people with comorbidities are receiving COVID-19 vaccine doses everyday. Meanwhile, while the vaccination rollout in Clark Freeport is yet to launch, authorities are working on their strategy while waiting for the vaccines to arrive.

Authorities are discussing how they can safely and efficiently execute a successful and hassle-free vaccination rollout in Clark. From its priority list to its vaccination hubs, officials are making sure they wouldn’t miss a single factor as they plan ahead. Read below and find out how Clark prepares for COVID-19 vaccination.

Clark prepares for COVID-19 vaccine deployment

The Clark Development Corporation (CDC), in coordination with the Metro Clark Advisory Council (MCAC), is preparing for the COVID-19 rollout in the Freeport. The strategic process was discussed by CDC President and CEO Manuel R. Gaerlan during the first formal meeting of the MCAC.

MCAC is composed of the following Metro Clark Areas: Angeles, Mabalacat, and Porac towns in Pampanga; and Bamban and Capas in Tarlac. Important aspects of the vaccination program including the eligible population, vaccination team training, vaccination posts and venue, ancillary supplies and handling, and the corporation’s coordination with other departments and agencies.

There are initially 190 medical frontliners and health workers who will be prioritized in getting a vaccine shot. Locators in the Freeport are also encouraged to prepare and allocate funds for their employees, but this is not mandatory.

As for the vaccination hub, authorities are considering transforming Clark International Airport’s old airport terminal into a vaccination site. Luzon International Premier Airport Development (LIPAD) Corp. President Bi Yong Chungunco said in an event that the old terminal, with a total capacity that could accommodate up to 10,000 patients, can store the vaccines that will arrive by plane. It will also have cold storage facilities needed for specific COVID-19 vaccines.

By then, flight operations will move at the new passenger terminal with a capacity of 8.2 million passengers yearly. She also mentioned that operations at the new terminal are targeted to begin by July this year.

Currently, there are five different types of vaccines that have already received emergency use authorization from the Philippine Food and Drug Administration, and these are the vaccines developed by the following: Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Gamaleya Institute, Johnson and Johnson.
