If you’ve been active on Instagram in the past few months, you must have noticed an influx of pictures of the newest drink trend in the spotlight: brown sugar milk tea. Popularized in Taiwan, brown sugar milk tea is similar to regular milk tea, but it is improved with a thick brown syrup made from muscovado sugar.

Since this trend sparked, every popular milk tea store seems to have concocted its own version of the drink. Want to taste one or try all of them? Head to any of the milk tea shops below where you can grab a cup of brown sugar milk tea!



1. Tiger Sugar

One of the most popular milk tea shops in the Philippines, Tiger Sugar uses fresh cream instead of milk in its drinks. The store’s menu contains 14 flavors to choose from but the best-sellers are brown sugar boba milk with cream mousse (PhP120), brown sugar boba with pearl and cream mousse (PhP120), and brown sugar pearl milk with cream mousse (PhP120). One tip for a delicious time: shake the cup 15 times before consuming so that the brown sugar will be mixed thoroughly.

Also from Taiwan, Xing Fu Tang is another milk tea store that has gained a following after it opened its first branch at The Podium. The queues might be long, but the drinks make lining up worth it.

Xing Fu Tang’s brown sugar boba milk (PhP120 for cold, PhP135 for hot) is a must-try for beginners with its decadent syrup and sticky-sweet pearls. If that doesn’t tempt you enough, then the refreshing cream topped by the crunchy goodness of toasted brown sugar might. The store also has brown sugar boba milk tea (PhP120 for both cold or hot), which is best for those who want a hint of tea in their drink.


3. The Alley

With its petite cup and cool logo, The Alley’s brown sugar drink offering is one of the most photogenic drinks on this list. It might be too pretty to drink at first, but once you finally take a sip, you’d find it a delight. Featuring four best-selling drinks, The Alley’s Brown Sugar Deerioca Series is named after the store’s logo.


One of the flavors is the brown sugar Deerioca (PhP120) which is a blend of deep caramel and fresh milk with chewy pearls. There’s also the brown sugar Deerioca creme brulee milk (PhP130) which is made with crème brûlée and gives out a richer taste. Meanwhile, the matcha brown sugar Deerioca milk (PhP130) is for those who want something new and the cocoa brown sugar deerioca milk (PhP130) is the drink for a quick caffeine fix.


4. Black Scoop Cafe

Besides their innovative one gallon milk tea, Black Scoop Café also has their own version of brown sugar milk tea that is laced with creamy milk and caramel syrup. The store is known more for its soft serves, but Black Scoop Café’s brown sugar latte is a great detour if you’re craving for something with a kick of caffeine. The brown sugar latte (PhP110) is a sweet treat that boasts a strong caramel flavor which blends well with milk.


5. Yi Fang Tea

Considered by many as one of the first shops to sell brown sugar milk tea in Manila, Yi Fang Tea never ceases to experiment with flavors when it comes to their drinks. Yi Fang Tea’s brown sugar drinks are a must for anyone looking for creamy goodness.



Known initially for their fruit juices, the store now offers a variety of brown sugar drinks such as the brown sugar pearl tea latte (PhP120 for medium, PhP140 for large), brown sugar cocoa latte (PhP140 for medium, PhP160 for large), brown sugar pearl milk (PhP120 for medium, PhP140 for large), brown sugar pearl matcha latte (PhP160 for medium and PhP180 for large), and brown sugar pearl cocoa latte (PhP160 for medium, PhP180 for large).


6. Chachago

Chachago opened its first shop in Manila last December 2018 and ever since, the Taiwanese brand has gathered a cult following. With their plan to open 30 plus branches in the Philippines this 2019, getting a cup of their best sellers such as the brown sugar pearl milk tea (PhP130 for medium, PhP140 for large) would be easier no matter where you are.

Other variants of their brown sugar drinks include roasted brown sugar cacao with salted cheese cream (PhP140), roasted brown sugar tea with salted cheese cream (PhP120), and brown sugar pearl with milk (PhP130 for medium, PhP140 for large).



7. Oh My Tea

After the limited release of its Golden Sugar series in February 2019, Oh My Tea brought back its sweet take on brown sugar for good. Flavors in the series include golden sugar with pudding (PhP125 to PhP140), golden sugar bubble drink (PhP115 to PhP125), and golden sugar salted cheese (PhP130 to PhP145).

If you missed your chance before, you can now try again at any of Oh My Tea’s branches. Since the Maginhawa store is open until 11:00 PM, you can get your brown sugar fix even late at night!

Serenitea has been one of the oldest milk tea shops in the Philippines. In their 10 years in the industry, they have offered several drink trends over the years. The latest addition to their menu is their brown sugar drinks, which are perfect for when you just want milk and none of the tea.



Treat yourself to any of the delightful flavors such as brown sugar grass jelly (PhP150), brown sugar milk (PhP180), and the brown sugar milk frost (PhP180). Each of these creamy drinks comes with different toppings. The brown sugar milk includes brown sugar pearls, while the brown sugar milk frost has a dash of muscovado sugar and is topped with Serenitea’s cheese frost.


Brown sugar drinks might be tasty and trendy, but remember that they carry a high sugar content, so drink moderately!
