Would you pay PhP250 to access Baguio City’s Session Road? Recent reports have revealed that Baguio City is contemplating introducing a congestion fee of P250 or more for private vehicles entering Session Road, its central business district. The proposed congestion fee is a step towards alleviating traffic in the country's summer capital.

According to the Baguio City Public Information Office, the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) has proposed a congestion fee plan under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme. Drawing inspiration from successful congestion pricing models in cities such as Singapore, London, and New York, the congestion fee aims to alleviate traffic, decrease pollution, conserve energy, promote responsible driving behavior, and generate additional local revenue.

Under the proposed guidelines by the MPTC, vehicles will be exempt from the congestion fee. This includes public transportation such as jeepneys, cars driven by senior citizens and persons with disabilities, uniformed personnel on duty, and emergency vehicles. Taxis will receive a discounted rate. In addition, vehicles owned by Baguio residents are eligible for rebates.

What do you think about the proposed entry fee to Baguio City? We'd love to hear your opinion!
