Mark Your Calendars: The Week-Long Love Boracay Celebration Is Happening on the Island This April

For a decade, Laboracay was the center of festivity on this resort island, where Boracay beach parties at night were originally at their climax. However, this was temporarily stopped in 2018 as Boracay was closed to tourists for six months to undergo environmental rehabilitation.

The annual event, considered one of the most significant events in Boracay and where hotel rates are at their peak, was revived in 2022 with a new name: Love Boracay. This aims to call on all tourists, migrants, and residents of the resort island to show concern and help promote environmental sustainability.

The term Laboracay originates from Labor Day, which is May 1, the feast of the Malay town where Boracay Island was, in honor of their patron, St. Joseph the Worker.

From its origins as a party-centric event, Love Boracay has transformed into a powerful platform for environmental conservation, with a unique blend of beach parties and conservation activities. This year, the festivity is evolving further, with many of the activities focused on seaport competition-related activities, culminating in a night-out party at the beach.

Recently, the local government of Malay, Aklan, has allowed the revival of the party at the beach since 2018, which is now held every weekend. So, nights out partying all year round is now so common in Boracay. It has been decided to celebrate Love Boracay through sports to make Love Boracay.

The local government of Malay has a bold vision for this resort island. They aspire for Boracay to be recognized as the sea sports tourism capital of the Philippines and, potentially, Southeast Asia. This ambitious goal is driven by the belief that promoting the island as a sea sports tourism capital will benefit tourists, athletes, organizers, their families, and fans, thereby boosting its economy and reputation.

The week-long activities for Love Boracay start on April 25 and run until May 1, 2024.
