While the summer sun heats up the Queen City of the South, there are a number of events in Cebu this May 2019 to look forward to. A couple of concerts, an expo, a pet fashion event, and even a night of experiencing the rich culture of Cebu are just some things in the pipeline.

1. Mayday Parade Welcome to Sunnyland Philippines - Cebu

Mayday Parade fans have something to smile about on the first Friday of May as the American rock band brings their act to the Queen City of the South. A fitting follow-up to their “A Lesson in Romantics” 10th Anniversary Tour in Manila last 2017, Mayday Parade Welcome to Sunnyland Philippines – Cebu aims to bring their brand of music to Cebu for the first time. The band will play songs from their latest album, Sunnyland, along with other tunes that bring a feeling of nostalgia to audiences around the world.

Gamers and toy enthusiasts rejoice! The JOYO Expo 2019 is a three-day event will see toy and gaming collections on display for you to drool over. In addition, you will get to see some personal collections of high-end PCs on display at the Rig Show. The best PC modders in the country will also hold a live PC Modification demo at the event. Cosplayers will also get the chance to show their talents during the Cosplay Showdown. And last but not the least, a Mobile Legends and Dota 2 tournament will be held to give gamers and ESport aspirants the chance to test their mettle against each other.

As part of his Asia Tour, independent singer and songwriter, Lauv, will stop by Cebu for a one-night-only concert at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel. The pop visionary will croon Cebuanos with his newly-released single, “There’s No Way.” In addition, the audience at the Lauv Asia Tour Cebu 2019 can expect Lauv to serenade them with his hit singles “I Like Me Better” and “Paris in the Rain”.

6. Gabii sa Kabilin

A night of discovering Cebuano culture awaits guests at the annual Gabii sa Kabilin.

On the second to the last Friday of May, all roads lead to the cultural and historical treasures of Cebu as the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. will hold the annual Gabii sa Kabilin (Night of Heritage) in different venues around Metro Cebu. Taking its inspiration from the Long Night of Museums in Germany, this event is on its 13th year of bringing local and foreign tourists to different museums in and around the Queen City of the South. Guests will get the chance to visit as many heritage sites as they can throughout the night. Buses are also available to ferry guests between the different sites. Among the heritage sites guests can visit are the Archdiocesan Museum of Cebu, Casa Gorordo Museum, Fo Guang Shan Chu Un Temple, Mandaue Presidencia, and the Mactan Shrine.

Where to start: You can start from any participating heritage site and buses will ferry you from one site to another.



7. Astro Space Camp 2.0

Where: The Family Park, M. Cuenco Avenue, Nasipit, Cebu City
When: May 30 and 31, 2019
Price: PhP450 for 4 to 10 years old (Day 1); PhP700 for 11 to 20 years old (Day 1 and 2)

Kids wanting to become astronomers can look forward to joining the Astro Space Camp on May 30 and 31 at The Family Park.

Young astronomy lovers will have something to look forward to at the end of the month. Hosted by the Society for Space Education, Research, and Development (SSERD), Astro Space Camp 2.0 will give science enthusiasts an experience of a lifetime. Among the activities scheduled during the event are Astronomy, Hydrorocketry + Recovery, Star Map and Constellation, Skygazing, and Quadcopter. The event is open to future scientists as young as four years old.
