Watch Jack Huston as the vengeful Ben-Hur.

Starting August 17, history lovers can go to selected cinemas to watch Ben-Hur. Starring Jack Huston as Judah Ben-Hur, the film tackles the story of a Jewish prince who was falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother from the Roman army. After years at sea, Ben-Hur came back to his homeland to seek revenge on this act of betrayal. Other members of the cast include Morgan Freeman, Toby Kebbell, Nazanin Boniadi, and Rodrigo Santoro.

Ballet enthusiasts can catch performances by Ballet Philippines as they relive a tale of adventure, love, and enchantment at Firebird and Other Ballets. This will be shown on August 19, 8:00 PM; August 20, 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM; and August 21, 2:00 PM and 6:00 PM at Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (CCP Main Theater), Roxas Blvd., Pasay City. You can also watch international guests with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra on select show dates. Ticket prices range from PhP412 to PhP3,090.

Ballet Manila explores people’s bravery and struggles to gain freedom in 'Rebel'.

You can watch Rebel by Ballet Manila as they use music and dance to relive the events leading to the 1986 EDSA Revolution. This show explores the power of faith and prayer, and is proof that a revolution does not have to be bloody and chaotic. Rebel will be shown at Aliw Theater, CCP Complex, Pasay City at 8:00 PM on August 19, 20, and 27. Guest artists will be Joanna Ampil and the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Gerard Salonga. It will also be shown at 3:00 PM on August 21 and 28 with Joanna Ampil. Ticket prices range from PhP515 to PhP1,545.

Fond of Celine Dion’s hits? You can watch recording artist Jed Madela at The Iconic Concert Series: Jed Madela Sings Celine Dion. This will be held on August 19, 8:00 PM, at the Music Museum located at Service Road, San Juan, Metro Manila. Ticket prices range from PhP1,500 to PhP2,500. In 2005, Jed Madela was named as the first Grand Champion Performer of the World from the Philippines in the World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) held in Hollywood, California.

It is the product of years’ worth of taking various photos by Jippy Pascua and Dennese Victoria. This exhibit opened last July 14 and will run only until August 21 at Pasilyo Victorio Edades (4F Hallway Gallery), 4th Floor, CCP Main Theater Building, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City. Exhibit viewing hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday to Sunday.

Take a closer look at streetball and urban music this August.

You can watch Global Hoops on August 20 at the Mall of Asia Arena, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City. Team Philippines will take on Team China and Team USA in streetball, a worldwide sensation which started to gain popularity in the early 2000s. Streetball legend Phillip “Hot Sauce” Champion of Court Kingz will lead Team USA. Wu You, also known as “More Free” will lead Team China. For Team Philippines, you can watch players including Ren Ren Ritualo, Don Allado, Wesley Gonzales, Willie Miller, and JR Aquino. Global Hoops will also feature hip-hop performances by artists such as Abra, Loonie, Ron Henley, Quest, The Philippine All Stars, and a surprise guest. Tickets are available at SM Tickets and prices range from PhP390 to PhP1,090.
