There’s something about weekends that makes us all excited: no work assignments, no classes, no struggle to beat the clock to avoid the morning rush. Because we have the Saturdays and Sundays to ourselves, we can either stay at home or do something fun! For those who are staying in Metro Manila, get your weekend booked with these great shows that will give you the kind of entertainment you deserve.

How would you survive a war and save men without a weapon? Portrayed by Andrew Garfield, Hacksaw Ridge is the true-to-life story of Desmond Doss. He is a World War II veteran who saved 75 of his fellow soldiers during the Battle of Okinawa without firing anyone. Due to his religious beliefs, he never carried a gun amidst the war because he believes that killing was never right. Desmond Doss was the first conscientious objector who received the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Hacksaw Ridge is in cinemas nationwide since February 22.

Horror fans can have something to look forward to this weekend! Rings is about a young woman who was concerned about his boyfriend’s worries after he explores the mystery of a videotape that is said to kill the watchers after seven days of viewing it. Viewers can expect a movie-within-a-movie storytelling as the young woman sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend.

Ballet Philippines brings their 47th season “Wings” to an end with Swan Lake, considered as one of the best ballets of all time. It will be restaged by Nonoy Froilan, Philippines’ premier danseur. The audience can also witness the performance of Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Yoshikazu Fukumura during the gala night on February 24, 8:00 PM; February 25, 7:00 PM; and March 3, 8:00 PM.

Ballet enthusiasts can catch shows at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo, CCP Main Theater, Pasay City. Students can avail 50% discount by calling TicketWorld for inquiries and reservations.

Hopeless romantics who want to experience a mix of emotions can watch Mula sa Buwan, a play that once broke the hearts of many. The story is set in 1940s Manila with characters highlighting young ROTC cadets and blooming colegialas (college students). The World War II broke out and challenges the youth to grow up. Fast forward to post-war setting, the story will center on the tragic love story of Cyrano, Roxane, and Christian.

This play showcases our unique traditions and beauty through harana (serenade), kundiman (traditional Filipino love song), and the Filipinos’ compassion and wit.

Mula sa Buwan is showing until February 26, at 3:00 and 7:30 PM.

Before You Exit is coming to Manila for their Asia Tour 2017. The concert will be held at Kia Theatre on February 24, 8:00 PM. Before You Exit is an American band based in Orlando, Florida, with band members Connor McDonough, Riley McDonough, and Toby McDonough.

This is part of Nihongo Fiesta 2017 under the initiative of The Japan Foundation, Manila in promoting cultural exchange through Japanese Language Education.
