A new year brings new things to come, and few of these are the hot new gadgets that will take over the market this 2018. Aside from new phones that carry the latest technology and features, techies are also anticipating innovative cameras and home entertainment systems that will be released sometime this year. In addition, you can expect some gadgets released late in 2017 to continue their hype this year.


1. Google Pixel 2

Google made a huge leap in 2016 by releasing their first mobile phone: Pixel. While the older version made just a quiet buzz in the market, the Pixel 2 promises a better camera phone than its predecessor—which gained praises from consumers.

Besides the camera improvement, Pixel 2 will also have the Google Lens feature, in which the user can get information about a certain movie, book, artwork, or landmark after capturing a photo of it with the camera. In terms of appearance, the phone will have a 5-inch, full HD OLED display with 100,000:1 contrast ratio. Google Pixel 2 is available through Lazada.


2. Samsung Galaxy S9

Samsung has been keeping techies hot in their seats by leaking info about the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9. The leaked info features a fingerprint scanner beneath the camera lens, smaller bezels, and a 3.5mm headphone port and jack. A 3D face scanner and a single-lens camera that can take 1,000 frames per second during video recordings are just some of its features.

It has been officially announced that the model will be launched next month at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. An exact date of release for consumers is yet to be announced, but according to reports by Bloomberg, the phone might go on sale in March.


3. Apple Watch Series 3

The new features of Apple Watch Series 3 cater to fitness and adrenaline junkies. It is dubbed by Apple as the“ultimate sports watch.” Runners can keep track of how far they have gotten with features such as built-in GPS and altimeter, while its “swim-proof” capacity might be apt for those who are frequent in pools and beaches.

The watch also has a Smart Coaching feature, which urges the user to move and be motivated to be physically active. Currently, there are five models of the Apple Watch that vary by appearance. Two of the models are also collaborations with Nike + and Hermes. It is available at the Apple Store.




4. Google Home Max

Price: $399 or estimated to be at PhP19,910

Like Apple, Google will also be releasing a smart speaker out in the market this year. Google Home Max, which went available in stores just last December 2017 in the United States, is the bigger version of the Google Home Mini and Google Home.

It is packed with the Smart Sound feature, which makes the speaker adjust its equalizer settings in accordance to any room’s acoustics. Audiophiles might also like the speaker’s compatibility to stream music via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or using a stereo cable.

Physically, it packs dual woofers, dual tweeters, far-field microphones, Google Assistant, Chromecast support, and a quad-core CPU. It is available for purchase at the Google Store.


5. Oculus Go

Virtual reality used to be a thing that can only be found in science fiction novels and movies, but Facebook Inc’s Oculus Go is making an effort to make VR something that the average citizen can experience.

While wearing the goggle-like eyepiece, the user can immerse himself or herself into several realistic scenarios via the 360° experience. There are also VR games, taking first-person perspective games to the next level. It can also be a portable and personal theater as the user can watch his or her favorite TV shows and movies with the device.

Physically, the device is very breathable and adjustable that even a person wearing glasses can use it. Facebook said that Oculus Go will be available for sale in early 2018.


6. Fujifilm X-H1

Price: There are speculations that it can be between $1,900 to $2,200, which is estimated to be at PhP102,395.

Fujifilm has been praised for the high-quality still photos of their products, but the X-H1 may finally be the company’s step toward improving their video quality.


Fujifilm is yet to release the official specs and features of Fujifilm X-H1. However, there have been rumors that the upcoming camera would be aiming for videographers based on the alleged specs. According to the website Fujiaddict, the camera will include an IBIS (in-body image stabilization), sub monochrome LCD monitor, 4K video at 30 frames per second, WP-126s battery, and have the same processor as Fujifilm X-T2.

Its release date is also under wraps and no further announcement from Fujifilm has been made.




7. iPhone X

Price: $999 or estimated to be at PhP49,805 for 64GB

Perhaps one of the most popular and highly anticipated gadgets in the list is Apple’s iPhone X. The phone was already released in November 2017, but it will continue to be distributed in limited supply this year.

The most notable features of the iPhone X include the Animoji, advanced TrueDepth camera, Face-ID recognition, 12-MP camera, and wireless charging.

Physically, it is the first full-screen display among iPhones, with the screen filling up the entirety of the phone even along the corners. It is also the first OLED screen, which means the display can work without a backlight and can display deep black color levels.
