Market Watch in Manila (October 4, 2018)

We provide an updated list of the prices of goods in Hi-Top Supermart.

In today’s price watch, we visited Hi-Top Supermart in Quezon Avenue corner Sgt. Esguerra St., Brgy. South Triangle, Quezon City to give you a rundown of their products’ prices and availability. Here’s a summary of goods and their prices ranging from vegetables to meat products, as well as rice, seasonings, and canned goods.


Rice

The price of rice at Hi-Top Supermart starts at PhP67 per kilogram (kg). Different types of rice can also be purchased in 5kg bags. Japanese rice sells at PhP164/5kg; Sinandomeng at PhP294/5kg; Organic Dinurado at PhP347/5kg; and Super Angelica at PhP273/5kg.

NFA rice is not sold at Hi-Top Supermart.


Sugar, Salt, and Pepper

Brown sugar at Hi-Top Supermart starts at PhP32/kg, white sugar at PhP54/kg, and washed sugar at PhP54/kg. Iodized salt retails for PhP9 to PhP23.50 per 500 grams (g) depending on the brand, while rock salt starts at PhP8/500g. Whole pepper retails for PhP75.40/29g and ground pepper for PhP69.50/29g.


Fish, Meat, and Poultry

Tilapia at Hi-Top Supermart is priced at PhP165/kg, while milkfish is at PhP230/kg.

Pork in cubes/adobo cut sells at PhP295/kg, and marinated beef starts at PhP515/kg. Ham starts at PhP53.75 per 250 grams.

The price of one whole chicken starts at PhP268.38 while eggs start at PhP82/dozen.


Vegetables

Carrots start at PhP250/kg; cabbage at PhP163/kg; onion at PhP160/kg; garlic at PhP98/kg; tomatoes at PhP90/kg; potatoes at PhP130/kg; pechay at PhP170/kg; siling labuyo at 850/kg; and kangkong at PhP15/bundle.


Fruits

Oranges starts at PhP120/6pcs, apples at PhP104/8pcs, and banana saba at 17.25/5pcs and lakatan at PhP88/kg.


Canned Goods

The lowest prices for each canned good per can are as follows: tuna, PhP29.50; corned beef, PhP16.50; sardines, PhP15.75; and meatloaf, PhP68.50. The price may be higher depending on the brand.
