Market Watch in Manila (November 22, 2018)

Hi-Top Supermarket’s list of goods and their prices, available here!

For the last Market Price Watch this month, we returned to Hi-top Supermarket at Quezon Avenue, corner Sgt. Esguerra St., Brgy. South Triangle, Quezon City. We checked the availability of items and the price of commodities for all the consumers who are on a budget. Check out the summary below!


Rice

NFA rice is not available at Hi-Top and various types of rice are sold starting from 2 kilogram (kg.) The price of Dinurado is currently at PhP117/2 kg; brown rice is PhP90/2 kg; and Sinandomeng is PhP150/2 kg.


Sugar, salt, and pepper

The price of white sugar is at PhP62/kg while brown sugar is at PhP52 per kilo. Salt retails for PhP9 per 500 grams (g) while whole black pepper costs PhP74 per 29g.


Fish

A kilo of milkfish costs PhP230/kg while tilapia costs PhP160. Galunggong was not available.


Poultry and meat

A kilo of chicken sells for PhP182, pork in adobo cut is sold for PhP295/kg, and marinated beef is at PhP520/kg. Cured ham starts at PhP79 per 250g and the price of a dozen eggs starts at PhP42.


Vegetables

The prices of vegetables are as follows: onion, PhP135/kg; garlic, PhP98/kg; tomatoes, PhP85/kg; cayenne pepper, PhP760/kg; potatoes, PhP155/kg; carrots, PhP140/kg; pechay, PhP70/kg; kangkong, PhP110/kg; and cabbages, PhP130/per kg.


Fruits

Banana is not available in Hi-top. The price of apples is at PhP111 per six pieces, while the price of oranges ranges from PhP68 to PhP132 per six pieces.


Canned Goods

Canned tuna costs PhP22.50 per 180g, corned beef costs PhP15.30 per 210g, and a can of sardines is PhP15.80 per 180g, and meatloaf starts at PhP68.


Overall, Hi-Top Supermarket has almost all the basic goods with the exception of NFA rice, galunggong, and banana.
