Bonifacio Day, a regular holiday which is celebrated every November 30, falls on Friday this week. The holiday celebrates the birth of Andres Bonifacio, one of the country’s national heroes. Since it is a holiday, students and workers often use the day off to spend time with friends and family. Besides the holiday, anyone heading to Metro Manila can expect pleasant travel due to the new highway that lessens the travel time from Taytay to Taguig. Meanwhile, motorists should be careful when heading to Shaw Boulevard and Mandaluyong because traffic is expected to be heavier due to the city’s holiday festivities.

Weather: Mostly sunny skies all over Manila

It will be generally sunny in Metro Manila for the whole week with only minimal chances for light showers. This weather is suitable for those who will be heading to the beach or will do outdoor activities. Day temperature is estimated to range between 31 to 32 °C, while the nights will be cooler with 22 to 25 °C. Make sure to bring an umbrella whenever heading outside as a protection from the sun’s UV rays. If engaging in activities such as swimming or hiking, wear sunscreen and comfortable clothing made from breathable fabric [1].

Traffic News

Motorists in Mandaluyong advised to take alternate routes

Due to the start of Mandaluyong’s 2018 Paskuhan sa Tiger City bazaar, the local government of Mandaluyong issued an advisory for motorists to take alternate routes starting from November 19 to January 3. These alternate routes can help motorists avoid the expected traffic near Maysilo Circle.

If you’re heading to Kalentong or Shaw Boulevard, you can take the Sikap Street and take the route to Sto. Rosario, Martinez, and Rafael Street. Another alternate option if you’re going to Makati Avenue is through the Coronado-Blumentritt-P. Cruz route [2].

Traffic expected due to Bonifacio Day protests

Protests are expected to occur during Bonifacio Day. Areas expected to be affected are around Mendiola, Luneta Park, People Power Monument in White Plains, or Bonifacio Monument. Motorists are advised to avoid these areas when travelling and find alternate routes [3].

Number coding might be lifted

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) might lift the number coding for Bonifacio Day. Official announcements are yet to be made but it was done in the previous year [4].

Travel Update: New highway lessens travel time between Taytay and Taguig

The Laguna Lake Highway is now open to the public. The newly inaugurated toll-free highway connects Taytay, Rizal, Pasig City, and Taguig. Through this new development, travel time would be lessened by 30 minutes since the traffic along EDSA and C-5 is expected to be eased [5].
