The celebration of “Araw ng Kagitingan” or Day of Valor will fall on Tuesday, April 9. The holiday commemorates the Filipino soldiers who fought in the World War II. Since it is a national holiday, workers and students will have no work and classes for the day.

In other news, Metro Manila will get hotter summer weather and motorists would have to keep their heads cool in the midst of several changes that could affect their travels. One change is the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority’s (MMDA) removal of the window hour or allotted time for motorists to use their vehicles on coding day. Another update is the closure of the Magallanes Interchange last April 1, which means that affected motorists would have to take alternate routes.

Meanwhile, for some great news, Pasig City and Ortigas Center residents can now use the bike rental service, which now boasts new terminals and bike units. For the full details, read on!

Weather: Humid and cloudy weather expected

The air in Metro Manila will be dry and hot as summer continues. Day temperature is expected to fall between 34 °C to 35 °C the whole week. Since the sun would be consistently hot, make sure to apply sunscreen. To lessen the risk of heatstroke, stay hydrated and wear clothing made from light and breathable fabrics such as cotton. The nights will be slightly cooler with temperature ranging from 24 °C to 28 °C. For more updates on weather changes, monitor the news [1].

Traffic News

MMDA removes coding scheme window hours

MMDA has removed the window hour that is allowed during coding day in Metro Manila. The window hour refers to a period of time within the day when motorists affected by the coding scheme can use the roads without being detained. According to MMDA’s statement, the removal of the window hours is immediately in effect on all major roads, alternate routes, and Mabuhay Lane routes. Under the number coding scheme, vehicles are banned to travel on certain days of the week from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM depending on their license plate number [2].

Number coding will be lifted during Araw ng Kagitingan

There has been no announcement yet regarding the lifting of the number coding scheme for Araw ng Kagitingan, but it can be expected since it has been implemented during the previous years [3].

Portions of Magallanes Interchange are closed

Last April 1, the MMDA has closed the Magallanes Interchange and motorists are now advised to take alternate routes. From their advisory, MMDA suggested that affected motorists can take the Magallanes Loop or Magallanes Village as alternative route. The closure of the interchange was implemented to address traffic and vehicular problems in the area [4].

Pasig City’s bike-sharing program improved

Pasig City’s local government has launched its bike-sharing facilities which consist of a network of eight bike stations spread within the Pasig border in Ortigas Center. As of now, there are about 100 rentable bikes in total, with 10 bikes per station which can be used for free by anyone with an access card. Users can ride a bike for an hour, and the bike is expected to be parked at the next station. Bikers can go from Robinsons Galleria or even along the City State Center Condominium. The first 100 of access cards were already deployed but the local city government will issue more cards that are open even for non-residents of Pasig [5].

Hotel Booking Status

For those who will be planning a staycation during the holiday, there are still plenty of available hotels in Metro Manila [6].
