Metro Manila, Philippines, June 12, Independence Day

The Philippines celebrates its 121st year of independence this 2019.

The second week of June is approaching and it brings with it the celebration of the Philippines’ Independence Day. Held on the 12th of June every year, Independence Day is an annual national holiday that commemorates the country’s independence from Spain. Since it is a holiday, there are no classes and work for students and workers. Those who will make use of their free time to travel must take note of several news and updates in Metro Manila for their convenience.

For one, the weather will continue to transition from summer to rainy. In terms of traffic, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) postponed the proposed P2P operation among UV Express vehicles. Meanwhile, some good news for commuters on the 12th: there are free LRT and MRT rides during the day. In addition, the number coding system will also be lifted in several parts of Metro Manila. Read on for the details.

Weather: The Philippines still transitioning from summer to rainy season

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the rainy season might start soon this June. With the transition from summer to monsoon season, anyone in Manila can expect frequent thunderstorms and light showers the whole week. Day temperature is still warm at a range of 32 °C to 35 °C.

Tips for commuters and travelers: make sure to bring an umbrella for both the heat and rain. Pack some hoodie or cardigan if you get cold easily. Continue to monitor the weather by watching the news or visiting DOST-PAGASA’s social media pages [1].
