Metro Manila, travel, things to do weather, mall hours

With less than 50 days before Christmas, the majority of the adjustments in Metro Manila this week are in preparation for the upcoming holidays. For example, mall opening hours will be moved from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM starting November 11. Road reblockings along EDSA and C5 would also be temporarily suspended to accommodate more motorists around the area. Along with earlier opening hours, malls in the metro are also prohibited to have weekday sales according to the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). Finally, residents near Marikina and Rizal could now use the Marcos Bridge, which finished its rehabilitation six months earlier than expected. To get the complete travel news and updates, read on.

Weather: Sunny but mostly mixed weather

The forecast from Accuweather states that the weather will range from sunny to rainy during the week. The earlier parts of the week will be sunny with a potential for cloudy skies, but as the week goes on, the chances for downpour will increase. The expected temperature range during the day will be around 30 °C to 32 °C [1]. With a forecast like this, make it a habit to bring an umbrella as protection against both sun and rain. For continuous updates on the weather, monitor the social media pages or website of DOST-PAGASA.

Traffic News: Marcos Bridge reopens to the public

After its closure for five months, the Marcos Bridge along Marcos Highway in Marikina City has been reopened to motorists last October 31. The bridge was previously closed due to repair works by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), but the maintenance was finished six months ahead of its deadline [2]. The bridge is often used by motorists to travel to areas such as Marikina, Quezon City, and Rizal.

Travel Updates

Mall opening hours moved earlier; roadworks temporarily suspended

If you’re planning to shop during the holiday season, note that the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) advised the public that major malls in Metro Manila will now open at 11:00 AM instead of the usual 10:00 AM. This schedule applies to weekday mall schedules. Along with the change in opening time, the MMDA also announced that road reblockings along EDSA and C5 will be temporarily suspended unless there’s an emergency [3].

Weekday mall sales not allowed

Besides the opening hours, mall sales in Metro Manila would also be limited to weekends. Weekday sales would be prohibited starting November 11, 2019 to January 10, 2020 [4]. The prohibition is also part of MMDA’s goal to lessen traffic during the holiday season.
