This month, Metro Manila and the rest of the Philippines will witness two astronomical events that will be visible in Manila skies. Meanwhile, Cavite to Lawton ferry rides will be free until January 31, 2020. In terms of land transportation, the Philippine National Railways (PNR) sends out its new set of trains from Japan. These trains feature new amenities that will provide more comfort to passengers. Read on for the details on these travel updates.


Weather


Generally sunny

Weather forecasts predict cloudy to dry weather to last the entire week. In terms of temperature, winds will be consistently cold due to the amihan (northeast monsoon). Day temperature will range from 30 °C to 32 °C and nights will be cooler at 25 °C to 26 °C. Chances for rainfall and thunderstorms are minimal to none as of writing. Annular eclipse and Geminid meteor shower will be visible in the Philippine skies

Two astronomical events will be visible in the Philippines before the decade ends: the Geminid meteor shower and the annular eclipse. The Geminid meteor shower will occur from December 7 to 17. The Peak night is on December 14 until the early morning of December 15. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) showers will generally be more visible around 2:00 AM to 3:00 AM. Meanwhile, The annular eclipse of the sun, which happens when the moon is farthest from the Earth, will occur on December 26 and will be visible from 12:32 PM to 12:43 PM [2].



Traffic News: Cavite-Lawton ferry rides free until January 31, 2020


The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that the Cavite-Lawton ferry service will be free for passengers until January 31, 2020. On the other hand, the Cavite City to Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) ferry will be providing free service until January 9.

For the Cavite-Lawton ferry, the earliest trip from Lawton is at 6:30 AM, while trips from Cavite will start at 5:15 AM. The last trip in Lawton is at 7:00 PM and the last trip in Cavite is at 5:45 PM [3]. For CCP to Cavite trips, the earliest departure from CCP is 6:00 AM while departure from Cavite starts at 7:00 AM. The last trip from CCP is at 5:30 PM and the last trip from Cavite is at 6:30 PM.


Travel Update: PNR adds reclining seats and comfort room in trains


The latest addition to the Philippine National Railways (PNR) trains, which were sourced from Japan, include amenities that can provide comfort to regular passengers. These amenities include leg rests, stowable tables, reclining and rotating seats, and toilets. DOTr started to operate the new set of trains last December 1 [4], and they can seat 81 passengers.
