Under the latest quarantine update, the entire province of Palawan is still under modified general community quarantine status until May 14. However, due to the surge of COVID-19 cases in some areas, quarantine protocols are being enforced in hotspots. In addition to the precaution of implementing lockdowns in high-risk barangays, the operating hours of some establishments were also adjusted in accordance with the local inter-agency task force. There’s also good news for Coron residents as the area was deemed free from COVID-19 at the end of April. Read on for details on the medical news today.

Lockdown News: Five Culion barangays out of ECQ

The enhanced community quarantine in Barangays Balala, Baldat, Culango, Libis, and Tiza in Culion were lifted last April 26. The five barangays were placed under lockdown due to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the area [1].

However, several barangays are still in ECQ. These barangays are as follows: Osmeña, Sugod, Baybay, and Upper and Lower Bayanihan. While under lockdown, contact tracing activities will be conducted in these areas. As of April 26, Culion has 37 active cases out of 46 total confirmed cases.

Shopping News: SM City Puerto Princesa adjusted mall hours

The mall hours in SM City Puerto Princesa have been adjusted to 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM in compliance with directives from the local Inter-Agency Task Force [2]. The supermarket’s hours have also been adjusted to 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Health News: Coron is COVID-19 free

The local government of Coron announced last April 27 that the area is free from COVID-19 after two infected patients recovered from the virus. The two patients were in the municipality’s isolation facility and were sent home where they can continue their 7-day home quarantine. In Coron Information Office’s official Facebook page, the Coron LGU thanked the cooperation of the municipal IATF, EOC, municipal health office, contact tracers, frontliners, and security. Residents were also lauded for following the standard health protocols [3].
