Public and private
cemeteries in Calatagan will be closed in the upcoming All Saints Day and All Souls Day, according to Executive Order No.20-2021 signed by Mayor Peter Oliver Palacio. According to the memo, all public and private cemeteries will be temporarily closed to the public from October 29 to November 4. The main reason for the E.O. is to lessen the spread of COVID-19 infection in the area.
Those who want to visit cemeteries can do so before or after the temporary closure to prevent mass gatherings during the week of All Saints Day and All Souls Day. Upon visiting cemeteries prior and after this week, guests must practice the following protocols to ensure the safety of the public:
● Visitation is only limited to a maximum of two hours
● Social distancing must be observed by all visitors, as well as the proper wearing of face masks
● Vendors are not allowed inside the cemeteries
● Deadly weapons and pointed objects are not allowed inside or outside the cemeteries
● Alcoholic beverages and liquors are not permitted inside and outside the cemetery
● Mass schedule and other religious rituals must be organized
No penalties were specified in the E.O.
As of October 11, Calatagan records 922 cases of COVID-19. Of these numbers, 100 are active cases, 726 are recovered patients, and 28 are deaths. Calatagan also implemented tighter measures last October to November 2020 per IATF Guidelines. Police officers were displaced in checkpoints to make sure residents were following protocols.
