Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leisure establishments and hotels and resorts all over the world are facing big changes in accommodating guests. For instance, until a vaccine is available, hotel stays are likely to offer more personalized services and amenities—no more breakfast buffets and bellhop services. As the country eases into the new normal, Boracay hotels and resorts strive to give travelers a safe and beautiful haven by upgrading their safety protocols.

It all starts even before operations resume. Before reopening to the public, Boracay hotels’ safety and cleaning guidelines have to be inspected first by the Department of Tourism. Only those that pass can reopen. This process worked better than expected; the green light from the government has made hotels go beyond the recommended safety protocols for operating amid the pandemic.

Aside from the mandatory use of personal protection such as masks and face shields, hotels have stepped up their protocols to provide guests peace of mind during their stay. For instance, hotel rooms will be kept unoccupied for 24 hours after disinfecting to ensure decontamination. Transportation or transfer vans will also carry a reduced capacity and will be disinfected before use.

Upon arriving at the hotel, sanitation booths will be the first to welcome guests. Aside from washing their hands, guests also need to disinfect their shoes and luggage at the hotel’s entrances. UV sanitizers will also be used for sanitizing luggage before being brought to the rooms. When guests arrive at the front desk, transparent barriers will keep them and hotel staff separated.

Good hygiene and sanitation remain the top concern, and that is why Boracay hotels ensure the disinfection of high-touch areas regularly. As a result, handrails, doorknobs, lounge chairs, and other public utilities will be regularly sanitized. With the exception of free shampoo bottles and toothbrushes, hotels will also provide sanitation kits to guests.

Inside dining and recreational areas, safety reminders will be placed. Restaurant furniture is also moved to comply with the social distancing protocol, while single-use sachets for condiments such as salt and pepper will replace shakers and grinders.

Safety protocols require cooperation from both parties, so guests and travelers also have to abide by some rules. Travelers to Boracay must present health declaration forms and undergo thermal screening and testing before stepping foot on the island. Contactless transactions are also encouraged.

With these safety protocols in place, hotels across the island are now eager to once again welcome visitors. Many have been releasing promos to invite travelers from Western Visayas. As local tourism slowly bounces back, safety is and will be the topmost priority of hotels for its guests and staff. Stepping up their game to regain guests’ trust is the first approach to entice those who want to relax and reenergize.
