AstraZeneca is one of the different types of vaccines developed against COVID-19. Produced by the Serum Institute of India, it has an efficacy rate of 63.09% against symptomatic COVID-19 infections and has been added to the World Health Organization (WHO)’s vaccines list with emergency use authorization. It is also the first vaccine brand sent to the Philippines by the WHO’s COVAX Facility, and a batch of doses from the shipment were sent to Tagaytay City.

With the arrival of the doses, the vaccination program in Tagaytay for its medical health workers has begun, but the local government is still accepting vaccine registrations for senior citizens. Read on and find out what you need to know about the ongoing vaccination program in Tagaytay.

Tagaytay City began its vaccination rollout last March 10, 2021. City Mayor Agnes Tolentino, a medical professional herself, helped in administering the AstraZeneca vaccines for healthcare workers and medical frontliners in the city at the Tagaytay International Convention Center. First to get the vaccine jab was Tagaytay Medical Center (TMC) General Surgeon Dr. Warren Roraldo, followed by TMC Director Dr. Rafael Rodriguez. The vaccines were part of the first batch for the 585 health care workers in Tagaytay.

Tolentino said that as a prime tourist spot in the Philippines, Tagaytay should ensure the safety and health of both residents and tourists. The COVID-19 vaccination program will provide free inoculation to its residents and will adhere to the Inter-Agency Task Force’s safety protocols.

So far, over 50% of the city’s population showed interest in getting vaccinated, and the information campaign is still ongoing. In addition to this, the City Government of Tagaytay is still accepting registrations for COVID-19 for senior citizens only. The registration form can be found on their official Facebook page.

As of March 25, 2021, the city has a total of 386 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 52 active cases, 327 recoveries, and 7 fatalities. Regulations are strictly imposed to curb the spread of the virus. Social gatherings such as weddings, baptisms, and bargains will be limited to family members only. Celebrations of festivals and karaoke are prohibited and funerals may only be attended by family members and must not exceed three days.
