Here's a Guide on How to Plan a Boy’s Seventh Birthday Party
Throw a magical birthday party even on a small budget!

Your boy is almost 7 and his birthday is coming up. If you’re on a tight budget and looking for ideas on how to celebrate this milestone year—don’t fret! ShoppersGuide has some tips for you. First of all, we need to understand how boys at this age think, what tickles their fancy, and what their needs are.
Mystery and magic
Preparing for a birthday partie for seven-year-old boy can be a lot of fun!
A lot of boys at this age fall for mysteries, secrets, clues, and magic. They would love parties that incorporate puzzles or games that will make them think and figure out solutions from clues. Treasure hunts are still a popular choice—you can have it around your home, backyard, or even at the park.
Aside from magic, 7-year-old boys are also mesmerized by science. You can throw a science-themed party and have the children perform (safe) experiments. The venue can be decorated with planets and constellations, or balloons in the form of a double helix.
Children of this age are also able to play games with rules, so you can have those as additional activities. Board games and card games are well-appreciated, along with team contests or team sports like races, tug-o-war, and relays.
Involvement is key
There are many ways to save on favors and the party menu. One big way is to DIY!
Seven-year-olds know what they want and, usually, would like to have a say on how the party will unfold. So involve them in the planning and allow them to help create things like invites and décor. They would enjoy it very much if they could suggest a party theme or games and activities for the party itself.
You can bring them with you when you go out to shop for favors or ingredients for the party dishes. On the day of the party, let them help with food preparation and table setting. They might even have as much fun planning the party as being in it!
Planning timeline
Because these children would love to run around and explore, an outdoor party would be ideal. Tip: Have it in your (or a relative’s) backyard!
To make sure that you don’t get too stressed organizing your child’s birthday party, it is advisable to begin planning a month before the day of the party. You can start by finalizing your venue and theme, making a guest list, planning your menu, and sending out invites.
Two weeks before the party, you can already go out to shop for most of the things you will be needing. This includes decorative items, party favors, door and game prizes, your child’s outfit, disposable eating utensils, and food ingredients that won’t spoil.
A week before the party, you can place your order for cake and other dishes. Confirm your appointment with the photographer and videographer, as well as other entertainers or hosts (if any).
10 tips to keep costs to a minimum
Consider these tips to save money as you organize a memorable birthday celebration for your child.
• You can ask relatives and friends to act as emcee or host, photographer, or videographer.
• Design your own invites using existing templates.
• Save on cost of balloons by pumping your own.
• Consider making your own favors: cupcakes, cookies, or items that fit into the party theme.
• Choose a free location: your own backyard, a family member’s house, park grounds, etc.
• Consider having your party during snack time so you only have to prepare simple dishes.
• Bake the cake yourself, or if possible, ask a friend to bake it for you at a discount.
• The cost of plain paper plates and cups is cheaper than the fancy, printed ones.
• According to experts, a 7-year-old can handle around 7 guests—so don’t feel obliged to invite all of his classmates. Allow him to choose his guests and invite only his closest friends.
• Instead of hitting the big supermarket, consider buying supplies for decoration, door/game prizes from the local or downtown market.
